The first ever football league match was contested between Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, as for some reason the game kicked off earlier than all the other fixtures that day. Since then, Stoke haven't lost to West Brom.

The first ever football league match was contested between Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion can you provide some evidence to back up the claim ? Wolves v Villa was the only game to KO @ 3pm, and the first goal in that game is credited at the first goal, with the preston/burnley game not kicking off till 3.50pm

With stuff like: "Well at least you boys have come back up, that's an easy 6 points for us next season" "When was the last time you spent 2 consecutive seasons in the prem" "enjoy your relegation battle, we'll enjoy midtable obscurity"
I think the yamyam got the point. Last time he'll ever diss stoke.

There should be some kind of code not to talk about this until after the match, it only makes me shit myself even more that we are going to finally lose

I agree Angry. Each time we play them brings the probability of defeat that much closer. Of course they will beat us at some stage and it would be great if we could agree to not mention our record against them prior to playing them and only break out "We Always Beat West Brom" when we go two goals up before giving them absolute shit as usual.
Won't happen of course but each time we play them we all KNOW that we're going to lose at some stage. They'll probably declare a public holday in Smethwick. ;D

Something tells me that they will be a better WBA this season with Di Matteo in charge, I think they will offer a little more than usual.

It's to settle an argument i'm having with a backwards type. Was it the cup game? at the hawthorns, Stewart went in Goal? and we lost 1-0 or 2-1 I went and to be fair it really wasn't like we lost it was so comical.

1-0 Scott Dobie scored.......2003. Pretty sure the last league game they beat us at there place before that was a 6-0 hiding. I remember it well because I ran a West Brom fan over in my car afterwards. He seemed ok as I drove off :-)
The FA Cup game finished 3-1. We were so bad our goalscorer was Gabiadini.

I can't see us beating them in either game this season -I fancy it'll end in two draws or a draw and a defeat. Everyone writes the Baggies off as a yo-yo club, but I think hey'll stay up this year

I couldn't believe some Stoke fans were taunting the Baggies fans with 'We always beat West Brom' at 2-1 down. Pretty sure Richard Sneekes ran riot that night. I remember the phone in on the way home this West Brom fan was screaming down the phone......'I canner beloive we beat Stoke' :-) Poor fella had no idea it would get worse

Saturday 27th September 2003 at The Hawthornes 1-0. I was there that day, siting with the home support. I watched big Chris give a display that made Mama look lethal. Worst day since "The Scottish Day".

That's kind of the point of a hoodoo though isn't it - they've been due to beat us for about 25 years. ;D Fuck it, keep taking the piss, we always beat West Brom. When they do finally fluke a win against us they'll be dancing on the streets of Rio - I won't begrudge them that after a quarter of a century of them donating us points.

In the FA Cup we lost 3-1, Muggers went to get stitches and Stewart went in goal for ten minutes or so. In all fairness he made a decent save on the free kick, but they scored the rebound and he parried it out out rather than wide. We were woeful that night though. We played them a few days earlier in the league and drew 1-1, we had a poor following for the league match.
The last time we lost we did have nine men, but they also had a man sent off and were down to ten. I will never forget Gifton playing left wing back that game!
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.......

So a defeat to West Brom = instant relegation?
We have finished comfortable in the mid table for the last 2 seasons.
