Rivals have screwed up and they know it. LiverpoolStokie has something to do with them and he has said as much. He also said that next to Everton, Stoke's was the most active message board and so Rivals are interested in what we are saying.
They have turned it into an advertising hoarding with a message board stuck on the bottom of it. But first and foremost it needs to be a message board. If it fails at that, then it fails as an advertising platform, not the other way round.
Since all this went down, they have done little if anything at all to improve the interface. I suspect that they have decided to ride it out in the hope that this was all some knee-jerk reaction and we'll all come round sooner or later.
Or maybe, active as we are, every other team has stayed put and they don't give a shit about us or what Smudge may or may not request.
This board is as good as the old Rivals one in most ways. I miss the easy access to other teams boards plus the banter and abuse before and after matches, but not enough to tollerate the new board - it really is a horrible piece of design.

Theres better options than Proboards though. PunBB or phpbb is better. I'll set a board up for Smudge if he wishes. To run a football messageboard of this traffic i would say at least £15-£20 a month for a server with the traffic with it. Easily managabel if a few people give a few quid a month. One off £2-£5 for a .co.uk domain like www.oatcakeforum.co.uk for example. Software like Punbb, PHPBB etc is free. However Punbb is a basic one where you have to use add ons so it would take alot of work. PHPBB would be the better option. I have managed servers and set up PHPBB forums before with MYSQL databases and customised and maintained them. If the funding was there from a few fans i would be willing to either set it up or give instructions on how. and i bet there are a few others with the same experience with this software as me. As we don't own proboards and it is a free basic forum host we can't control down times or high traffic. With our own we can get the complete Oatcake like we used to with stories and stats. Think about it Smudge/Davef. It really wouldn't take alot of work for a forum we can call our own that owuld last for a fair few years.

Cashback
I think the only reason I would move from this MB is if something similar was available with the extra dimension of paprallel sites for other clubs i.e. what this is like to use with what Rivals has in terms of set-up and structure or, in fact, what Rivals used to be like.
I think the opportunity is not so much for you (or anyone else) to replicate this site with a few more features, but for someone or some organisation to set up a multi-team set of boards to compete with Rivals. There has probably never been a better time to do it than now.
