I've had final confirmation today that Rory will be doing his third bike ride fundraiser for the Donna Louise Trust. This time he's cycling from Whitehaven to Tynemouth in two days. He leaves Whitehaven Docks at 7am 6am on 26th June. Rory explains in his own words below and the link to leave a donation is here:- www.justgiving.com/RorysBigBikeRideI have been supporting the Donna Louise Children's Hospice for some years now and I always try to do whatever I can to support this wonderful charity.
The Donna Louise Children's Hospice is a wonderful place that runs a comprehensive children's hospice service within Staffordshire & South Cheshire for the core purpose of providing respite and end of life care for children with life threatening conditions. To find out more please visit www.donnalouisetrust.org.
For the past two years I have completed two cycle challenges to try and raise as much money as possible and this year will be no different.
This year me and Andrew have decided to cycle from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. This is a grueling 172 mile trek and this year we are pushing oursleves as normally this ride would take 3 days to complete but we are attempting to complete it in just 2 days.
Both Andrew and I hold The Donna Louise Children's Hospice close to our hearts and we want to make sure we raise as much money as possible. So we are asking you to help us to do this by donating as much as you can whether this is £2 or £200 it will all help us to reach our target and to help so many children throughout Staffordshire & South Cheshire.
After the amazing support I have received over the past couple of years, I you will support again and help me raise as much money as possible for this fantastic cause.
Please click donate now and show your support.
Thanks
Rory

What a great bloke he is. And on a selfish note it's good pre-season too.

My brother Zak was one of the first children at the Donna Louise trust, and stayed often until he passed away before christmas last year, so I'm extremely greatful to Rory and SCFC for what they have done for the Trust, and long may it continue. God bless you Rory and SCFC

Cheers Rob - I also got your PM about the ride and will reply later today. The good news (for me) is that Rory's route (if he sticks to the route on the map you linked to me) passes about 3.5 miles from my house and I'll make an appearance to cheer him on wearing a Stoke shirt. For anyone on holiday in the area, who wants to watch, Rory will leave Keswick by the Old railway track (cycle and footpath) and follow that to the village of Threlkeld. From Threlkeld they exit via the short stretch of disused road alongside the A66 to the Hamlet of Scales where they will take a loop on an unclassified road to Mungrisdale before rejoining the A66. All I have to do now is find out what time he expects to leave Keswick. So I can arrange a time to rendezvous. PS - he is wimping out and going via Cockermouth to avoid crossing the Whinlatter Pass on the way from Workington to Kewick - shame on him!

This guy is just a top bloke and should definitely have a role within the club and community (asssuming he would want to!) when he hangs his boots up.
I will of course be donating.
Well done Rory!

Agreed - his attitude is exemplary. Very modest and prepared to play anywhere as well as do "extra-curricular" stuff like the bike rides. He could do a job on the pitch for any team when he leaves us, but I'd like to think he would be offered a coaching type role with the Academy at least.

PS - I was born in Warrington Hospital - my parents lived in Grappenhall until I was about 2 years old. Thought so - I dimly remember when Cumbria "divorced" from BBC North West, but wasn't sure where the cut-off was. Their reporter was a bloke with a beard and a vaguely north east accent. They still get the odd South Lakes story on though. Grapenhall is near Warrington's "posher end" - Appleton, Stockton Heath etc - I used to pass through it a lot on my way to the motorway, but not so much nowadays - I hop on the M62 near my home now. Would still be good for regional telly/SSN to cover this ride.

Lakeland, Whinlatter is bad enough in a car, I have refused to drive that way before now. Whinlatter is fun in a car - I do it regularly! But not on those days when there is one of those cycle events which attract hundreds of (mostly unfit) cyclists, who insist on riding three abreast up the steepest bits! ;D

Fancy helping Rory raise funds for the DLT? I'm looking for a few volunteers who can spend a small amount of time posting on other football messageboards, contacting media and tweeting celebrities and their followers to help raise awareness of Rory's latest venture for the Donna Louise www.stoketshirts.co.uk/wordpress/?p=571If you can help over the next two weeks by committing to a small amount of time per day then please PM me and let me know how you can help. Here's something we tried last year and it worked oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/inde....ay&thread=82734I'm sure that we can help Rory beat last years total and also do our bit for a great local charity. Update We have Twitter and some messageboards covered now and a facebook page planned. Anyone else want to join up or have any ideas that they can deliver to help the fund raising effort? I will be asking the same as last year soon, A donation to have the Oatcake message board logo on the shirt and asking companies to sponsor a space on the shirt. Does anyone fancy running an auction if we can get companies to donate a product to the cause? All ideas gratefully received ;D

Adam Leventhal is a bit of a legend. He has given your details and event details to sky planning desk so i'm pretty sure they will have some television cameras in some aspect there at the event at certain points? He seems a top guy!

Just wondering Scfcrob, If you ever thought of including a local riding club, to ride with Rory. My son's a keen cyclist who rides for Lyme Racing Club based at Newcastle Town Football Club. I think this would raise more money, as all the people riding the ride will be getting sponsors too.
I'm sure quite a few of the young riders wouldn't mind riding a part of the ride, if not all of it, especially some of the 15/16 years old. As alot of them ride club runs on Sundays 60 to 70 miles.
