Let me see, ...... Hunting season for ducks, for deer, for turkeys, cricket season, rugby season, spring, summer, autumn, winter, .....does golf have a season? I can't see how anyone can claim to have only supported Stoke for 2 seasons!

It can work both ways to be honest. Not by way of boast but simply to make sense of my point, I have been following Stoke for just shy of 50 years. That make me no more knowledgeable or incisive on football matters of today but it does give me a grounding on which to (hopefully) take a balanced view of where we stand today. That's not always the case, I'm quick to add, because I am just as likely to be 'tainted' by the past as I am to be 'grounded' by it when judging the football we see today. My two sons often 'catch me out' in that respect when I drift into my 'rose tinted fantasies' of yester-year when, of course, we were absolutely frickin brilliant and more entertaining than Barcelona are now. Some of the biggest 'groaners' on this board when it comes to our style of play are the older generation who have seen much better. The trouble is, they saw much better when all clubs played better football in a completely different footballing world. In some ways I envy the latter-day fans who are not tainted by such memories and who simply take it as it comes and are clearly loving our time in the spotlight (and so they should). Put it this way, the current regime at Stoke have enabled my sons to experience top flight football (very different though it may be) as I did in my youth and, for that, I am very happy indeed. God bless all the 'new' fans and here's to you staying with the club for the next 50 years. One thing I am sure of though is that, if you do, you'll be telling the younsters in 40 years time that you've followed the club through thick and thin for 50 years. I understand the fella's point at the top of the thread but, to be honest mate, it simply relates to your age/number of years following the club. When you're in your 50's you'll be no different to the rest of us old tossers!
Edit: Another point worth noting, in terms of those who are proud of the fact that they supported Stoke through some very dark days, is that we are probably not half as big a club as most of us would like to think we are when it comes to 'faithful fans'. When you consider that we didn't average more than 16,000 during our promotion season and Norwich have had more than 20,000 season ticket holders for several years (despite 2 relegations and now playing in the third tier), you can understand why some are proud of being amongst those that stuck with it.

what annoys people is that you get some little oik who has been supporting the club since August 2008 telling us to get behind the club, support the manager blah d blah de fucking blah.
Where were they* on the grass bank at Wigan? The Swindon away end? Telford? Luton away in the 2nd round of the Simod cup? Fuck 'em.
*If they weren't born then I'll let them off!!!!!!

Perhaps when you have matured a little Potters11, you will learn to be a bit more forgiving and respectful of other peoples views, without being annoyed by something so trivial. I love the fact that the ground is full and I don't care whether it's with 'new' fans or old fans returning, long may it continue - apart from trying to get off the car park that is! By the way doz, there's naff all else to do in Norwich so any comparison is meaningless!

Wembley: I knew someone would say that mate but their support has been fantastic given two relegations and starting last season with a 7-0 home thrashing by Colchester, then sacking the manager. We can always look for reasons but their support has been fantastic. So has Sheff Wed's come to that when you consider the garbage they've been watching in recent seasons. They could well be in the third tier by next weekend but they'll have 20,000 + in the third tier (and they have Sheff Utd on the doorstep). It annoys me how we tend to totally over-blow how huge our support has been over the years when the facts don't bear that out.

I know mate and I agree, but you have to admit that when we were the big fish in a small pond and were winning more than we were losing it was fun going on away trips. It's the wrong thread for us old'uns to reminisce on so I'll stop there before someone think I've been round the block a few times too often!

What utter rubbish! Experience counts for nothing! So, why don't we appoint a 4 year old as manager! have a 5 years old age limit for chairman! Of course, all those mysterious 15,000 extra fans at the Brit over the last two seasons know Stoke City far better than people who have watched Stoke for ten, twenty, thirty, forty years or more!
I am very, very tempted to suggest to the poster who said that he and others are treated like sheep? Stop bleating! Enjoy eating the grass and go off and support the sheepshaggers! However, I would not be so unkind!

Yet they continually bleat about the Waddo years and Sir Stans playing days as though 'we kiddies' are just stoke supporting sheep...i argue this point quite regularly Let's face it...we ARE Stoke supporting sheep...through thick n thin, players and managers....like i continue to argue with them Where did I say we are 'treated' like sheep? I said we 'are' ....the analogy being that we support the club irrespective of the current manager, current players, current position etc. In my experience it seems that it's the older generation of supporters who, as doz pertinently explains, have the longer comparisons and therefore tend to gripe about the game compared with yesteryear. For the record my dad took me to my first stoke game when i was 5....some 28 years ago

I started supporting Stoke when I was about 6 (so 1993/4 season) so thats only just over 15 years really, I know what the OP means, in a lot of peoples eyes that probably makes me a johnny come lately. What does really grind my gears though are people who refer to new fans of our club 'glory hunters' or say they are only supporting Stoke because we are in the Prem, EVEN though the person giving the stick started supporting Stoke in the 70's, when we were a bigger club than we are now! Also guys, while I'm at it , stop acting like you're some sort of hero because you supported Stoke when we were in the lower leagues! Do you want a medal? Apart from the last 3 years I've only know Stoke as a second/third division team, I don't want a medal for it though! ;D feel better now I've got that off my chest!

I am sure I can find supporters across all ages who think TP is wrong etc and conversely those of all ages who think TP is right etc. I have seen Stoke win promotion in 1963, get humiliated when we had the lowest ever number of points from the First Division etc. etc. But, I think it is perfectly fair and reasonable for supporters with a lot of experience of the ups and downs of soccer to point this out. What experience tells me is that TP's achievement is very, very difficult but doing a Leeds is very, very easy.

I do agree with that Nicholas! Only sunday evening did i have the pleasure of a full blown argument with my Grandad as to the merits and pit falls of a Pulis regime (he hates the bloke). When I offered up a sensible excuse for our 7-0 dicking, he retorted with "well i was there when the roof collapsed on the Butler street Stand" Bless him the old fart ;D ;D

462 seasons is that all. You cant have an opinion unless you have seen Stoke play against the cavemen. The best ref in them days was called Mr T Rex ... Now (John) ... I've been using this board for at least 14 years and what I want to know is how come you haven't been hung drawn and quartered, blindfolded and shot, banned for a suitable cooling off period or at the very least sh1t binned?! Hmmmm? I think we should be told. (Though it's quite possible Mr & Mrs Admin are too busy policing scfc2010 to notice ... But don't you worry, I've PM'd em ...) ah

P.S. Hope he didn't fart on one of those Land of Leather sofas ;D ;D
