He had an excellent game today. He has had a slow start to his Stoke career but he is getting better and better.

sorry, for an hour (until a footballer came on to play alongside him) he was average. If we're spannering-one-off over his performance today than god help us.

Dean did well and will be in the side for the rest of the season so get use to it.
He and Diao will play all season if Ethers and Lawrence are on the wing.
There is no way Pulis will open the game up again as much as he did when Whelan came on. We were opened up that easy in the middle of the park in the last ten minutes it was untrue.

When Beattie came on, we went wank. Diao needs to stop getting booked. He gets a yellow a game and looks like he's going to get sent off every game for 2 yellows. It's a waste of a sub imo. That said we have no one else to do the job he does, which is put a foot in.

Dean was average at best. He refuses to pass forward and isn't strong enough to win as many challenges as others. Whelan and Diao need to be in the middle with Lawrence and Etherington outwide. We need Diao for his height and strength to defend set pieces, and I think he's much better than Deano in the cage. Diao made some excellent challenges and looked decent on the ball for most of the game, but he seems to match every good tackle with a foul or a trip. I think he's a bit too keen to get the ball sometimes, and that most other players have an extra few yards of pace than him. Whelan is better in the air and in the tackle compared to Whitehead AND he can pass forward and play in the forwards and wingers.

Whitehead continues to look a Championship standard player I'm afraid. The only positive we can draw from 'Deano's' recent performances is that he isn't quite as anonymous as usual - that is the depth to which we have to go to draw a positive. The midfield was totally overran until Whelan came on and saved the game for us.

I too thought Whitehead had a good game.
I feel a bit sorry for him over the criticism he gets, as he is following instructions to play a certain way. He is an unselfish player, and it takes a lot of discipline to play a "shackled" role.
I reckon he is one of those players whom the other players like to see in the side.

You'd agree though that his impact on games is virtually zero right? Arguably its not entirely his fault that he looks so poor alongside a midfield comprising Delap and Diao too, but 'unselfish' looks a hell of a lot like 'anonymous' to me - and that's being kind.

Whiteheads best game was at Blackburn imo but it is true he is getting better all the time and I thought he did ok again today. Personally I felt man of the match was a toss up, between Tuncay and Wilko, Wilko is fast becoming my player of the season

I just can't believe what i am reading. He was very poor as was all the midfield his passing and distribution was woeful he gave away alot of free kicks what is good about that???? the only consolation.....it wasn't his worst display

No. I'd agree that he would have more impact on games if he were not restricted by the negative game plan though. Our manager bigs him up because he knows some of the criticism Whitehead gets is down to his choice of tactics.

Thought he was garbage as usual. My old man even commented how poor he was.
Delap was worse. Midfield is a big problem area for us.

"We were opened up that easy in the middle of the park in the last ten minutes it was untrue. "
Yeah, not like the first 45 minutes where Wigan were several worolds ahead of us.
The only reason I feel we got a point today was that Scharner moved back to centre half second half. Diao and Whitehead could not get near him.

I think generally he has been poor since he has been here. I just don't see what he offers us at all. I've never seen a central midfielder touch the ball so little as he does. Goes missing far too often. How he gets in the side ahead of Whelan baffles me.

Is this a case of if you start the season looking utter dog-shit, once you reach the heights of distinctly average people will think you are the dogs dinner?
