I shall always remember that Mansfield game, Peter Shilton had a face on him like a smacked arse , I think he was sold the following week .No tears spilt , great goalkeeper that he was, he never showed it whilst he played for us. hmm am I right in thinking the transfer window closes after we have played our first game? Could be a Butland/Shilton parallel? I doubt it tbh. Shilton was desperate for a move and probably regretted coming to Stoke when we didn't win the league in 74-75. Butland strikes me as a much more honest less selfish kind of person than Shilton

Dire!
I remember the first game at Mansfield! We were a lot more effective off the pitch than on it!
Alex Lindsay Howard Kendall, Dave Gregory and Paul Richardson all made their debuts as I recall. This was the Blyth Spartans season which ended with Alan Durban being brought in Feb/March ish
So it wonna very good! Durban sorted us out for the following season though! 😊

Charlie missing the pen was the final nail for me. But in reality, it’s rare for an established team like Stoke to get relegated in one season. We looked like we were in decline from the start of the 16-17 season when we were getting caned by quite a few teams, and just looked vulnerable. We got away with it with a few wins inspired by individuals, but for me the signs were there. I really think it could be the wake up cal we needed, and get everyone in the club focused in the same direction, because we completely lost both our sense of direction and even worse, our identity. I’m looking forward to next season more than I have for a while, so ........ goaaaaaaarn Stoke! 😊

Big Sam would be the perfect fit for us right now. He’d be there to do a rebuild, which I think he’d relish. He was a multi millionaire before the Everton payout, so this might be right up his street, and we’ll within our price range. Pound to a pinch of snuff that we’d be installed as favourites to go straight back up if Sam was brought in 😉

And the people who administer to football at the highest level, would do well to take note of threads such as this seems there are lots of us 'dinosaurs' about My guess would be:- the number of disaffected honest folk wanting to watch a 'clean more honest sport' is increasing. Yes, there's always been an element of cheating and diving (I remember Francis Lee) but this is now - ridiculous
its a parody of the game i used to play as a kidAnd remember that word we once knew - 'sportsmanship' ? respecting the game - respecting your opponent - to win or lose through honest endeavour ? wanting to be fair in all things ? its gone - completely so I will keep my hands in my pockets - not pay out for anything remotely to do with the sport - even the TV subscriptions, until, we get our game back Best post I’ve seen for years. I’m an argumentative bastard, but Conna disagree with any of your sentiments. The game I loved had been taken away I’m afraid.

Those players loved the club and played with pride.
Plus anyone of that back four would cut you in two rather than let you pass 😁

RIP Jimmy.
Excellent footballer and brilliant summariser on the radio, as well as being a true gent.
I might be wrong, but I also think he was heavly involved with the FA's decision to make Terry Venables the England manager, who, imo did an excellent job.

Jack Marsh and Pejic have been miles away the best full backs I’ve seen at Stoke. Griff looked quality in his early days hence the big money moves that saw his best days. The only other one to come close imo was Glenn Johnson in his first season when he looked like a Rolls Royce of a player.

Said this before. Pej is a legend for our club. But if he's got any advisors they should be sacked! He's coming over as a typical bitter ex pro who missed out on the big bucks.
We all agree it was time for MH to go so let's just move on.
I'm guessing he'll now concentrate on his next favourite target which is Shaq!
Gets boring after a bit and really shows him in a bad light imo

No appointment would please this board. It lucky there's only about 2000 of us on here, because some people think they are representative of all the supporters! We represent approx 7.5% of the people who go each week, and approx 3% of all the SCFC supporters! And before the opinion poll police start, just remember that the last election proved that sample opinion poll's mean the square root of fuck all!
He wouldn't have been my choice, nor would QSF, I was firmly a MON fan, but he's now the manager of our club, and I'll back him to the hilt. All that matters now is staying up! Lets review where we are in the summer!
Goaaaaarn Stoke!

I like Pej...I can see him being really anti QSF How can be anti-QSF, if he doesn't know who the bloke is? I didn't say he was, I said I can see seem being anti? This is based on his ramblings on radio Stoke, which, imo, are an embarrassment, but as I said, he's entitled to his opinion, but personally, I think he talks absolute bollocks, which is a shame for such an eloquent, and actually a decent bloke. Maybe his paymasters are prompting him, I don't know, but it's disappointing for me personally to hear a true hero of mine sound like a bitter old man.

I like Pej, one of my all time heros as a player. But my god he does spout some shite! He's a sound bloke, I've met him at presentation nights years ago, and really liked him. But he comes over as an embittered old pro, who (Like Us) would love to see a team full of home grown lads who'd run through brick walls for the club. But that's not the world we live in nowadays, and Pej doesn't come over well on Radio Stoke imo. Plus I can see him being really anti QSF if we're not quickly turning teams over. and wanting a UK manager, and saying that these foreign coaches aren't bothered! And whilst I respect his opinion, Moyes?? Wtf???

Perfect fit for us. MON is a great man manager/motivator and RK will add a fear factor that we also need.
Regarding length of contact, then no manager is long term nowadays, imo max three years in any job is about right for anyone. I think they'll go for a two year deal but let's see
We need him in now and let's crack on with the rest of the season.

I sat in the new corner on Saturday with some friends and family. and believe me the fans were anything but great! It started from the first time Peters played it back to Butland rather than down the line. No one had made a run and offered him a ball down the line, so it was either hoof it to no one or keep possession and go again. As frustrating as it is, we as fans need to get behind the team. And however we try to dress it up, we were very poor in comparison to the barcode fans on Monday. And that lot have a very similar record to us this season. Gibby I’m not saying I was happy, much the opposite, but the momentum AGAINST the team is gathering which can’t be good when the game begins and goes on. How would we all feel as players?? I’m just saying let’s not be part of the potential downfall regardless of where blame lies. I think we're both seeing it the same way mate. The point I was making was that we didn't compare well to how Newcastle got behind their team and manager. We as a group have to really up our game, because when you read some of the post's on here, then unless we revive Waddo, every other manager being named as a possible replacement is "shit" according to many posters! I understand the frustration, I've been a supporter since the late 60's, and it's not always easy. But getting behind the team and the manager is the only way we can help out what's happening on the pitch, and I truly believe that apart from maybe one individual, who was hauled off on Monday, then all the players are trying their best. But they need a bit of impetus/kick up the arse from the manager, call it what you will, to grind out results.

MH was a breath of fresh air when he came to the club. I was fed up with TP talking down our chances, and defending a one nil defeat rather than trying to win/retrieve the game. I was never anti TP, but it was the right time to move him on, and equally, I have always liked MH, but I think now his time is probably up. For me, he's a honourable proud man, who is trying everything to get us out of this mess, but it's not working.
PC is a ruthless businessman, and if supporters are thinking he's being indecisive, then imo, they are badly mistaken. What he's not being, is knee-jerk, chopping and changing the manager does not work, history tells you this, but when the time for change comes up, then someone like PC will act, which is what I believe he'll do over the coming days.
We've been on an upward curve since 2002, and it's only natural for a club of Stokes size for the odd dip and plateau. We would never maintain a top ten position for years and years, and it's to MH's credit, that we did it three years on the bounce, and if you remember, many Stoke fans were concerned he'd leave for a bigger club at that point!
I trust PC with our club's future, and I believe he'll make the right decision when he's got the right alternative. This may prove to be our biggest issue, because who are the alternatives? There are very few mangers who are both available and viable, so we might need to approach a manager already in work. But are SCFC going to be attractive enough? I'm not sure they are, because we would struggle to ever finish higher than 7th, and if the big clubs take the cups seriously, even winning one of them would be a challenge, so maybe someone like Dyche or Rogers, or similar might not see us in the greatest light?
Some of the nonsense written on here about Hughes is just that nonsense, he wants the same things that we do, and is trying to rectify this. It's fine margins, and the first goal yesterday was always going to be vital. Anyway, as I said, I think MH's time is up, and we do need someone to freshen things up. This will cause another dilemma for me, because if all of a sudden the players find another gear and results pick up (Which we all want) it will be both great and infuriating in equal measure to me! They are professionals, and should put there heart and soul into playing for our club whilst they are here, Shaq take notice of this one!
Being in a relegation scrap shouldn't be a surprise, because our club is of a size then this is going to crop up periodically, so we need to deal with it, and unite behind whoever is steering the ship. If we do this then I think we are a force, if we don't, then we will struggle. On this final point, Newcastle's record is much the same as ours this season, but I'm sure we all heard how they supported the team and the manager yesterday? I have family in the north east, and they came with me to the game yesterday, and they couldn't understand the fans booing the players (I usually sit in the Boothen, but we all sat in the new corner yesterday......Never again for me!) I'll moan and groan, it's part of being a footie supporter, but ffs, some of the "fans" around me yesterday were almost willing us to lose!
Anyway, sorry for the long post, and lets hope the next couple of days things get sorted out, and we have a clear plan of who and how the club is being steered over the coming months.

I think Hughesy has run his course, and it's probably time for a parting of the ways. The days of managers running a club for years like Ferguson and Wenger are gone.
But as I've said in a previous thread, who is there to take over? There is no one imo ready to take SCFC on who's either viable or available.
I'd love to have a list of names, but now that big Sam is at Everton I think the cupboard is bare? TP is an obvious candidate, certainly available but I'm not sure he's viable.
Do we stick and run the risk, or twist and potentially run a bigger risk? PC has some serious thinking to do, and has probably been doing it for some time now.

I've not been on here for a while, but surely this is one for the moderators to sort out?
I get as frustrated as anyone with our current situation, but I'm sure that if I stood up in the boothen and said some of the things about our players, our manager and our club, that I see posted on here, then I'd be kicked out? I'd only have to do this once, and the mods know as well as anyone who the worst offenders are, so they should step upto the mark.
Opinions and free speech are fundamental rights that should always be in place. But there a few who abuse this privilige and badly overstep the mark. Imo of course!

When they sink into non league and disappear down the pyramid, apart from us pissing ourselves, they'll be no real impact onto our support. The real effect will be in the future generations as absolutely no fecker at all will follow that shite club, and they will pin their colours to the red and white mast! Especially if we can continue our upward curve that's been going in that direction since 2002!
Hate em with a passion, and look forward to seeing Radio Stoke promoting a "Derby match" between PVFC and Leek Town! And I'll have my blue shirt on shouting for Leek to bury em!
Apart from the above I have no issues with that shite from Boslem 😉

A strong 7 imo.
Sorted defence and centre mid out. Can't see us shipping goals like last year.
Would have liked a new right wing back, centre mid and another striker, but nothing looked like a panic buy and we're looking longer term with Wimmer and the young lads pushing through.
