Bayern If Ethers shouted for the second, then Whitehead wants fookin, but I think he was gesturing that no one shouted? He was deffo better today than I've seen him, and we forget that he played a big part in the winner last week A lot of the Whitehead threads on here, remind me of the "Rory Decrap" Threads frrom about two years ago tbh

We will get better. This is the first wobble we've had this year, and I think the confidence has been low. I moan, but I don't boo, I've seen so much Real Shit over the years, and now I'm a bit older, I fookin refuse to put myself through the pain! I think we need at least a couple more years in the Prem, this will fill the coffers, and attracts better Players, then we can really push on. And then I think we can, moan like fook if we aren't making the kind of progress we would like!

Bayern I agree, the first half in particular was toss! But my point is that let's be patient? And I'm trying to say that me, you, and many other's have lived through much darker times. I think today, that we beat a poor team, who won't finish bottom, and might just get out of the bottom three. Plus we have lifted our expectations so much with our Home Record last season, it's dissapointing frustrating, call it what you will, when we don't steamroller teams we think we should beat? And yes, I was saying "Look Where We Were!

It is a debate? I just think Henry is putting things in perspective?

Well Said Henry!
It was poor today, but Blythe Spartans, local "Derbies" against Maccelsfield, losing 4-0 away at Rotherham, need I go on!!
We have some such a long way, and we have to realise we still have a long long way to go if we are going to get back to where we were in the 70's.
I think a comparitive Team in the Prem today, who would reflect what our Standing was back then, might be Villa? Gives us an idea of how far we still have to go though!

Bayern I'm pissed off because we threw a lead away, and we were wank in the second half, but we also missed a sitter to win it. I think nearly all the threads today have had a similar theme, but I think that we, as fans, should just put it in perspective, we are 9th, and we have a squad that is better than for about 30 years, and no fooker enjoys playing against us. So even though I'm pissed off about the score yesterday,I'm pretty happy with where we are and where we look like getting to. The other thing that no one really mentions, is that if we win it's because we played well, and if we lose it's because we played wank. The Dingles actually deserve a bit of credit for playing well in the second half, the early goal, and their improvement were the key factors, not just us being wank! Anyway, lets go and bury Tango next week!!

It's guttin to drop points to that fookin lot, but, lets take a deep breath, and look at the table?
It's Nov 1st, we are 9th, and we've only lost to three of the Top 4, pretty fookin good start I think!
I mentioned on another thread, that we think that every result is about our performance. Yes, the second half was toss, but give the Dingle's a bit of credit for improving, that's what influenced the result more than our performance.
I don't want to give them fookers too much credit, but I think they have drawn the last three, Everton away, Villa at home , and then us? So they are perhaps not quite as toss as we think?

Well said Mac, but I can understand gettin pissed off with our own. I'm lucky, I sit in Block 22, and the people around me are sound, but it must be a fookin nightmare if you get stuck next, or in front of someone who is fookin moaning all the time, that really fries my head! That's where the Terraces were good, you could just move!

Well said March!
That deffo changed the whole game, if we had scored, it was game over, but they got a lift, and we need to give Wolves a bit of credit, it's not always about us being wank, it's also about the other team playing better.

Well Said Glass!
I remember bein at the Vic, with less than 10,000, and we were fookin wank! Those 10,000 are probably still with us today, and always will be, and it's a lot of the "Newbies" who are booing, which is bang out of order!!
I come in from Leek, and there used to be one bus, which was half full, now we have four buses, which is great, but there were loads of new faces appearing for the start of last season, who will all fookin disapear if we ever get relegated!
We have to build our fan base, that's vital, so we must develop this further, but the "Newbies" almost have to earn the right to criticise? Plus the fact that most of the new people are aged 30 to 50 odd, so they have just come out the woodwork because we got into the Prem, they aren't all youngsters!
It makes you want to turn round and say whats your fookin problem!!
Never mind, onwards and upwards!!

Who have Stoke signed directly from White Hart Lane? Yesterday's programme said just one player, Gerry McMahon. I find that incredible so was wondering if anyone can think of another player?! I've thought long and hard but can't come up with anyone- they may well be correct!! Where did Ray Evans come from? Don't know if that was Spurs, or was he ex Spurs??

Agree WD!
Lets fookin bully em and get right in their faces from the off! I think the game against Manure was a one-off, it's the first game since we came up when we haven't looked up for a fight at home!
But as someone else has already said, it's not the games against the Big 4 which are important, it's the games like Sat! That said, I know loads of Fookin Mancs, who I want to shove the smiles up their arses!

I have to agree with most of the above sentiments. I’d be pretty gutted if Lenny and Whelan miss out at the expense of Whitehead, Diao and/or Delap out wide. You’ve got to go with your best players in these types of games. I know people will say “Tone knows what he’s doing so shut the fuck up” but it’s a no-brainer; you go with your strongest line-up. Zola will be loving it if instead of having to deal with Whelan, Lenny, Tuncay and Kitson, he’s up against Whitehead, Diao, BT and Delap. I don’t want to knock the above mentioned players, especially BT and Delap. I won’t knock anyone who steps out in the Red and White but we’ve got to be starting our better players for me. We need to go with an attacking line-up IMO instead of a “lets restrict them from playing” team. Followin on from WD's comments, Isn't it fookin great to have options nowadays??? When have we been in this sort of position before? Not since the 70's have we had this many options, and you could argue, we have even more now than then! Goaaarn Stoke

Durban Was at all of those except the Ajax Game! I think the Liverpool game was 75? was this when TC scored two? He was scoring for fun then! Notts County was Fookin amazin! It looked like we'd blown it, and then Richo appeared to score, I remember bollockin Big Bren for not goin for goal when he headed it back for Richo! lol Yeah the Liverpool game was 75. Wasn't Paul Richardson wank eh? ;D Lol! Ya right Paul! He was toss, but he'll always be a legend! We are so fookin lucky in some ways to have seen the team from the 70's, it's hard to get over to some of the younger supporters how fookin good we were! lol That team in the early 70's was good, but adding Hudson, Salmon's etc made us a real force! Happy Days!

Bang on Smudge. It's simple really. Everyone gets their say and arguments for and against without the petty sniping that has tended to pollute this board in recent years. Shame really, as I can remember the days when it was all just a bloody good laugh. Even the arseholes were funny because they made such twats of themselves (Mr Anus etc) Truth be told we are ALL Stokies and proud. We just need to stick together and embrace the diversity of opinion ;D Great post Sausage! That sums up everything I feel, it can be fun on here, but like with every cross section of people, there are always Knobheads too! ;D I don't post much, but I read loads, and I know which posts and posters to ignore!! More humour needed I think. and let's make it fun on here!!

Many question whether Pulis' approach will allow us to take the next step. Not many actually! About six or seven people on here who don't appear to have much understanding of football. All the people round and about me at Bolton yesterday could see what was going on and appreciated the fact of how far we've come in trwelve months. A few planks on here who never or rarely go should simply be ignored So true Trebor! We need to get a sense of perspective about how far we've come in a short time, but there are one or two who wouldn't be happy if we were 5th, they want us in the " Big Four" We used to moan about there being no plan B, but now we have C, D & probably E, such is the improvement in the squad. Just a quickie about Collins, he had a good game, and it was a Sunday morning tackle for the penno, but he has to have a run of games, because we won't always have players settling in like Abdy & Beats! For Fooks sake, it took Kit's a season ;D

were 1-0 up pulis brings on pugh we go 4-5-1.that just left bolton to hammer us and we concede a late goal again.just leave it at 4-4-2 ffs.pulis is so negative. Sorry mate, but you're way off the mark with that! Pugh was deffo the right move, Bolton were on top until then. It made us solid, and we were on the front foot, and they got a penno from a hoof upfield that Collins went in for and mistimed his tackle. Then we were all over em again! I didn't see anything negative in anyway today Collins made a mistake, but all players do, we have probably forgotten that Abdy was way to tight on Drogba last week, and made it easy for a player of that class to turn a centre half, so yes unfortuntely mistakes happen!

Fookin good to have options though eh? Resting Ryan would have been unthinkable last Season.
I think Danny C gives us more of an outlet at LB, and I'd start with Matty wide left, Tuncay to come on when needed.
Sorro, Wilko, Abdy, Huth, Danny C, Lenny, Glenn, Rory, Matty, Rick and Kit's
Let's have em!!

I think we all need a small reality check! We were scraping through the League One Play-off's 7 years ago. Now we are being, imo, hyper critical towards some players, against the Team who are favourites to win the Prem. Every player put a real shift in yesterday, and I can understand people's moans about certain players, that's what makes us all Prem Managers But the effort and intensity was clear, and a credit to all involved. It's just a pity about the early Sub's, because if we could have chosen from Rick, Tuncay, Lenny & Matty to bring on from 60 minutes at 1-1, we could have had a different outcome. My moan is about Wilko, I love the guy, and we all identify with him as a Stokie, but you could have put your house on the booking he got, it was nailed on, and you could see it coming from his earlier challenge. So he needs to wise up pretty soon, we can't keep getting away with free kicks around our Box. If he can convince me and others, that he can pass it, then we could have a player on our hands, but he has got a long way to go in my eyes. This isn't based on yesterday, but what I've seen since he got in the Team. Top man, and a good defender, but I think full back is a real outlet, as long as they can pass it, and we could do a lot better. Got to mention the crowd yesterday, I sit in Block 22, and I've never heard it so fookin loud! We are playing our part in this adventure, and we probably need to be a bit more patient, but I think we are getting there, both as a Team on the pitch, and as the most hostile fans in the division!

I agree, Kits was man of the match for me, no doubt about it. The thing that struck me, was that he was giving a fookin good impression of Teddy Sheringham, not blessed with real pace, but speed of thought & a great touch, cwhat a ball for Rick in the second half!!
I think Kits has really put the squeeze on Beatts, which causes all sorts of probles for TP, but what a problem eh!! Mmmm, who should I pick out of Kitson, Fuller, Beatty, Tuncay, Mama (When fit) Who would have thought we would have such an embarrasment of riches!
Lets enjoy the ride!!

There is always a balance between "Hoofing" it, and playing through the midfield. We are evolving, there is no doubt about that, and we play more football than we are given credit for, but there are times, when playing it long is the right ball.
Chelsea under Mouriniho were the finished article in terms of a direct Team who could play as well. They certainly wouldn't play 50 passes to make 10 yards like Arsenal.
Manure mix it up too, much as it grieves me to say! It's all about getting the balance right, and we are certainly moving in the right direction.
I remember the Butler Street paddock slating some of the Players in our side from the 70's for "Fannying" about with it! I guess that's the other extreme, and we all want it both ways!

I was lucky enough to see that Team. And even though we had a really good Team from about 1970 onwards, that Team in 1973-74 & 74-75 was fookin tremendous!
We added Hudson, then Salmons to the Squad we already had, Greenhoff, Conroy, Ritchie Smithy, Bloor, Marsh, Pejic etc etc, and all of a sudden we were up a level. Shilton came in 1974, and if not for the spate of broken legs etc, we would have won the League in 74-75
This Team has a lot to live upto, but in all that time, with only a few exceptions (Sammy Mac, Robbie James Micky T era) we have never been this close to being mentioned in the same breath.
Lets enjoy the ride, I was a bit young in the 1970's, and was spoiled by getting used at a young age to Stoke playing like that, and I probably took it for granted without savouring it like I am doing now!
Happy Days!!!!

RAF
It would be a pity if your principals kept you away? I had a season ticket from the seventies through to the mid eighties, so I saw some great times, but also some shite!
I stopped going because it used to wind me up too much, wife & kids came along to, so that was another excuse not to go!
But I always felt that I would come back when the time was right, and sure enough, my Missus bought me a ST! (Don't know what she was trying to tell me)
It sounds like it would be more difficult for you to come back, maybe because it sounds like you have backed yourself into a corner, but Fuck Em, if you want to come back, then JFDI (Just Fuckin Do It)
I always enjoyed going to away games, but no ID card, so that's something I need to get sorted
I think it's going to be a real ride over the next few years, so it would be a shame if you missed out.

There's a lot of us in the same boat! I think we have all been a bit sceptical about ambition, style & motives, but Fookin Hell, we are flying, and we are becoming a team to fear, and that is down to the Manager, and the investment.
Is it right that we are the 4th highest scores in the league? God knows where we would be if Mama could score ;D
