I will be voting Labour purely to get rid of Gullis in Stoke North. Doesn't mean I endorse Starmer, David Williams the Labour candidate has all the requirements to be a good MP though. I have had far better interactions with Gareth Snell than I've ever had with Jo Gideon who refuses to engage in a discussion about drug policy, at least Snell was prepared to put a viewpoint forward, I don't agree with his view in the slightest but at least he has one. I'll see what the run up to the election is like before making my final decision. I hear he's a bit of a bully, liking to throw his considerable weight around to anyone who is to the left of him. Also quite a bit of controversy as to how he got reselected at PPC.

It does but doesn't mean he's going to be any good. Personally I was prepared to vote labour just to get rid of the current disastrous lot but his latest utterings about drugs and prohibition where he's just following the misguided, dog whistle tory rhetoric has me seriously considering spoiling my vote if there's no lib dem or green candidate in my area. He may be terrible. Remember with first past the post the important thing isn’t necessarily about who you want to win, it is about voting to stop who you don’t want. Else the vote may be a waste. I will be voting Labour purely to get rid of Gullis in Stoke North. Doesn't mean I endorse Starmer, David Williams the Labour candidate has all the requirements to be a good MP though.

I agree with your sentiments about the Policeman being in a difficult situation, but I'm not sure he could legally arrest him. If he had done so, I think we would be in a a whole different set of circumstances " Police arrest innocent man for exercising his freedom/ right to walk where he wants" probably a wrongful arrest, perhaps what the Victim wants. I've pondered what I could/would have done and wondered what the public expect the Police to do. Perhaps he could have " discussed" with him all the options and possibly let him walk " through" the demonstration....any public order consequence is possibly the fault of the " Jewish man" ...he may have got injured, killed, caused a riot...but , hey, he has proved his point. Perhaps the Policeman could have used different words...but in this case , in the real situation, does it really matter? Perhaps he could have said " As a Jewish man you are putting yourself at risk by walking near to the demonstration, but if that is what you want to do, so be it". I actually can't see alot wrong with what he said... most people would just ignore it and get on with it. In a public order situation Police are not looking to make arrests, but to preserve the peace and protect life . To arrest someone would take the police officer out of a crowd control situation. It's a long time since I was in the Police but I'd imagine " crowd control/ Police " instruction" to not to do something/ to go in a different direction is part of common law and MOST IMPORTANTLY is simply dependent upon the understanding that the officer is acting in your best interests, on your behalf. When I was in remotely similar situations the last thing on my mind was the politics of it, but then we didn't have cameras , social media. Have you watched the full (13 min) video BJR? The senior officer who intervenes, warns the man that if he attempts to step forward again, he will be instantly arrested and consequently, the man doesn't try it again, he is repeatedly offered numerous alternatives to his provocativeness.
As I said, absolute patience of saints.

He was plotting to overthrow Corbyn in 2016 mate. He didn’t overthrow him though did he. Corbyn was rejected and Starmer elected leader. He has since turned around the polls from potentially 2 or 3 more tory governments to almost certainly a Labour government in one of the most amazing turnarounds in history. In order to do that, he had to sell out Corbyn. He cannot commit to pledges made 5 years ago when the world and the UK has changed massively since then. Your understanding of history is totally different to mine. If you expect anything to change for the better under Starmer then I think you're going to be very disappointed. I'll leave it there.

Sorry I cannot accept that. In 2017 and 2019 we had a chance to transform this country for good and for the benefit of all. Sadly the establishment stepped in and ordinary people fell for the bullshit they were fed along with assasination from so called "socialists" I will never forgive or forget. So you think the impacts of Brexit, Covid, Ukraine/Russia and more recently Israel/Palestine on our country should have no impact on policy? Also Starmer backed Corbyn. He turned on him when he realised that the only way to have a Labour government in a FPTP system was to sell out Corbyn. He was plotting to overthrow Corbyn in 2016 mate.

I don't know what to believe when it comes to what they say in public as Starmer has already shown he's willing to abandon the pledges he was elected leader of the party for. So I'm hardly confident that they're going to stick to whichever manifesto they draw up given how the last leadership manifesto has developed. What I will judge them on is their actions and from grassroots through to NEC they've made a significant shift to the right in the party. I'll be surprised if this isn't replicated in their leadership of the country. If I was in England and if I considered myself left wing then I'd be voting for a left wing party. I wouldn't care if that meant my vote is "wasted" because the main reason people won't vote outside of tory/labour is due to "wasted vote" mindset. Green went from 2% to 9% to 20% to elected in Bristol. So if my vote helped people in the next election consider voting outside of the big two then it would be worth it for me. The world, and particularly the UK, has significantly changed since Starmer was made leader. His pledges made 5 years ago are not all relevant or affordable now. Sorry I cannot accept that. In 2017 and 2019 we had a chance to transform this country for good and for the benefit of all. Sadly the establishment stepped in and ordinary people fell for the bullshit they were fed along with assasination from so called "socialists" I will never forgive or forget.

It's a completely valid position to be anti-monarchy. The British monarchy and aristocracy repeated fucked over the Irish, so it shouldn't be any surprise that the Irish are not exactly fond of them. Can't really blame them. The only weird thing is that so many English folk don't feel the same. Unless your ancestors were aristocracy, they would have had centuries of grinding poverty, serfdom, famines, harsh taxation, brutally unfair laws and being sent to fight wars against other monarchies. It's only some weird Stockholm syndrome that keeps our people waving the flag of the very establishment who did this to us. True...it's almost like serfdom is still alive and well.

Gosh that takes me back As a teenager I remember getting hold of a bootleg LP copy of the Derek and Clive tapes which they recorded in NY. The most memorable of the sketches, "The Worst Job I Ever Had," Clive claimed he once nursed Jayne Mansfield through an affliction he called "lobstericimus bumbequissimus" - removing lobsters from Jayne's rectum. Of course I was only able to play the LP when my parents were out of the House Same here funnily enough mate.

Blindsided, how the fuck could you have been blindsided? There wasn't another force secretly plotting against you, or an unexpected event that came into play, completely out of the blue. EVERYTHING that you needed to know was already out there. Christ alive, you've just admitted that you had no understanding of how the relationship between cause and effect and fiscal policy actually works! FFS ... 🤦♂️ I’m sure some of her friends made a lot of money betting against certain stocks before their “fiscally responsible” budget was released. Has she ever been asked if she thinks it’s fair to take a pension for 10 days (or whatever it was) of pure failure? Indeed...you wonder if it was deliberate. If so she and Kwasi should be in jail.
