Dr.Medhat Atalla, another NHS hero who died yesterday. It looks like he was a good man from comments of his colleagues and patients. He is not well-known here because he lived most of his life abroad, but he is getting credit in newspaper and social media here currently after his death. www.facebook.com/DBHNHS/photos/a.514696811960798/2840051946091928/?type=3R.I.P

Trump was being sarcastic He was so serious while saying this, he thinks he has a solution that no body else has, actually in Iran hundreds died because they drunk some kinds of disinfectants. It is really sad USA has great scientists and physicians and they have to listen to their leader talking this way.

For example Trump as you mentioned him earlier is: Blaming Dr.Fauci for not informing him earlier Blaming doctors for stealing PPE Blaming China for creating the Chinese virus (even if they didnt create it, they hide it) Blaming WHO for being corrupt Blaming the democrats for blaming him Blaming Pelosi for whatever she said that i dont remember I believe other governments are also preparing their "blaming list" but not stupid enough to say it now and excite the people, at the time they must be working 100% to help the front-lines and poor people who cant get essentials. Every government has its mistakes including UK gov., but it is not the suitable time for blaming them. The greatist pandemic in recent times, who is to blame? I think most people would point the finger at China. They need reigning in, a rogue state?? I believe China must be the 1st one to be blamed. If they informed the world how serious it is earlier, if they banned their infected people from visiting other countries and spreading it, if they didn't obligate doctors/scientists to be silent, if they announced the real numbers ...etc., thousands of avoidable deaths were to be prevented and also thousands of destroyed businesses were to be prevented. But still this should not be the priority NOW, the priority is to deal with the crisis itself then to investigate what China did and the whole world may unite in applying sanctions/restrictions on them.

I believe governments in many countries must be blamed but NOT NOW. they should do their best currently to fix the situation instead of defending themselves. Blaming governments should not be only for the current governments, it must include previous governments as healthcare systems are not build in 1 or 2 years. Ignore "guess the country" as it is a global problem, even in developing countries. Not according to some on here Dr it isn’t sadly For example Trump as you mentioned him earlier is: Blaming Dr.Fauci for not informing him earlier Blaming doctors for stealing PPE Blaming China for creating the Chinese virus (even if they didnt create it, they hide it) Blaming WHO for being corrupt Blaming the democrats for blaming him Blaming Pelosi for whatever she said that i dont remember I believe other governments are also preparing their "blaming list" but not stupid enough to say it now and excite the people, at the time they must be working 100% to help the front-lines and poor people who cant get essentials. Showing my ignorance a little but a question Is it not possible to make gowns and gloves that can be washed/sterilised and used repeatedly? Some gowns are re-usable , others are disposable. I have never seen re-usable medical gloves. According to this article, NHS staff are asked to re-use disposable PPE "Doctors and nurses have been advised to reuse pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) ahead of expected shortages this weekend - even if they are labelled as single-use."news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-nhs-staff-advised-to-reuse-ppe-ahead-of-expected-weekend-shortage-11974895

What sticks out there is the number of tests not percentage, that Italy have done in relation to the number of deaths they've seen. I keep reading all over social media that more testing will mean less deaths. Are Italy the exception that prove the rule? Edit. On second viewing Spain have also tested quite a high number. I don't see why testing would mean less dead people. Will some be resurrected if more tests were done? 🤔 More tests = isolating patients earlier = less people get infected More tests = early detection of outbreaks = fast response from the governments based on accurate data Countries cant prevent viruses from spreading when it enter the stage of community spread but they can decrease the rate by applying social distancing/lock-down measures and early detection and isolation of positive cases.

This Covid-19 has had strange consequences. A&E's, which were constantly overloaded before the virus are now underused. Why is that? The answer must lie somewhere between the service being used recklessly before and people now not using it when they should because they're afraid of going near a hospital. Being 79, I was due to have a yearly MOT blood test this month but no way am I going anywhere where I'm with other people. BTW, top marks for S-o-T Council. Every week I get a phone call from them asking if I need help of any kind while I'm self-isolating. Fortunately I've got a brilliant family and am in need of nothing. But the fact that the council is there for those less fortunate than me, is good to know. OS. Cant they arrange a home visit for taking blood sample for the tests? I read an article about a very big decline in numbers of hospital visits in USA including visits for serious symptoms like chest pain, drowsiness ...etc. It is certainly wise to avoid unnecessary hospital visits nowadays but on the other hand necessary visits shouldn't be postponed too. Wishing you many years full of happiness and love <3 <3. Stay safe

"Doctors told they 'don't have to record COVID-19' as a cause of death" a title of an article on Yahoo News regarding UK. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/coronavirus-death-certificates-guidance-petition-095005492.htmlYes, pneumonia is the direct cause of death but as the patient was COVID-19 positive, this must be added as (b) cause. As long as I understand but I am not sure, in USA they are counting deaths for suspected cases (people who were suspected to have COVID but were not tested) to their official numbers of deaths due to COVID. Everyone is doing it differently. There should be a standard. Here they said Belgium doesn't count the old people. Sounds false. This is why any comparison between countries does not make any sense.

One thing that this crisis is doing, is showing some people up for what they really are. Most people are losing out financially, whether as an employed person or as a self employed person. I think that there is a large group that would just like things to carry on as normal. That will keep their losses down. We keep hearing the cry "Well they would have died anyway". We are all going to fucking die one day - we are all on death row. That some people believe that they have the right to decide when a person dies is frankly disgusting. Nazi Germany comes to mind. If a nation ever enters the scenario where decisions are made about killing off the elderly, sick, infirm, mentally ill and others, for the sake of profit - well, unthinkable for myself. I understand there is a world shortage of PPE, and we live in unprecedented times, but how has it got this bad so quickly? How has a country like ours got itself into such a state that we are relying on handouts? Why can't we ramp up production of what we make here quickly? Not handouts. Egypt exports surgical gowns for UK even before the COVID pandemic, one of my Egyptian colleagues working in NHS shared this photo for the gowns there before the crisis, the recent PPE shipment is paid too by UK gov.

So what are we saying, lead poisoning when getting shot? What I understood from the article is that, they want pneumonia to be added as cause of death, adding COVID as (b) cause is not a must and it depends on the doctor filling the certificate if he/she wants to write it or not stating "it may be mentioned, should the doctor wish"

How are Egypt doing Doc? Till now it is under control here but who knows what will happen in the next weeks!, the government here has just sold a big shipment of PPE to UK, I wish this means they are reassured about the situation.

Thank you, we are safe till now in Egypt, I am not even interested in understanding how this is happening as long as it will continue this way, may be we are harvesting the results of living in pollution and unknown viruses for years, may be we are just waiting for the monster. I wish you are safe and everybody here will be safe. I am wondering if climate and cultural norms play avery large part in those countries with low reported cases (assuming reporting is accurate). India in particular is blowing my mind. How on earth are their numbers so low? - Hot and humidity may contribute, WHO refused this theory, but no one knows much info about the virus so may be they are wrong. - Average age in Egypt is 24 years (25 years in India) while it is 40 years in UK and higher in other European countries, this may be another reason. - Percentage of foreigners/flights in Egypt/India is much less than Europe or USA. - We abuse antibiotics and we have tough resistant bacteria that does not respond to any kind of antibiotics, so COVID-19 is a pet for ICU/chest doctors here in comparison with what they see. - Some studies suggested BCG vaccine (a mandatory vaccine in Egypt and some other countries outside Europe) has a preventive role against COVID-19. - Normally when someone +90 years old dies here from a respiratory infection, no one cares a lot about finding the exact reason and even his/her family will refuse further investigations. - Tourists usually get diarrhea and GE symptoms when they eat in local restaurants here while this does not happen to Egyptians or Indians, mostly this is due to repeated exposure to different kinds of similar infections. - They are tracing contacts here and they close any hospital when one of the HCPs gets the virus as a precaution to prevent community spread. - The government closed the airports and schools early, millions here work for the government and high percentage of them are on paid leave now. - Some people think the government is hiding the actual numbers, but I believe this is wrong, they cant as we already have limited numbers of ICU beds and ventilators and if the virus exploded here, no once can hide the reality. - May be all of these theories are myths and we are just waiting for it to explode, actually in the last few days the numbers are increasing but still under control.

If I am in the same situation, I will certainly buy essential products for my parents regularly, it is not about the products itself but small things like this may boost their mental health and this is highly needed especially for elderly in this situation. I believe restrictions in UK is not tough when it must be tougher, but in this case I dont see a big violation. Hi Dr.H, you're making the mistake of trying to apply logic to much of what's written on here. Hope all is going well with you and that you keep safe during what must be a very tiring time. Apart for the loony left on here mate It's not a big deal, nor was Kinnock the other week. Nor is people sitting on park benches during a bit of exercise. Untested medical professionals attending people with the virus and without the virus (not knowing if they themselves have the virus) with a lack of protective gear, as WILL happen tomorrow is beyond contempt. This is 100% a valid concern, asymptomatic HCPs can be source of infection for thousands who are already ill seeking medical assistance so have higher probability to be vulnerable. PPE shortage is everywhere, add to that doctors and nurses per capita in UK is nearly half the percentage in comparison with a country like Italy.

Hundred of thousands are entering the country through airports without investigations, thousands are making parties here and there, thousands are going to non essential work ... etc., this should not be a big deal. On the same day 14 days ago, Italy had 175 deaths in 24 hours from 13th to 14th of March. We're still 250ish behind though going back 14 days. Yes, number of total deaths in Italy on 14th of March was 1.441 deaths. Apart from the sudden increase today, UK is doing better than Italy.
