Soft spot for Citroën, blame my dad. The DS was brilliant, rotted for fun unfortunately and the CX was just bonkers. Smoothest vehicles on the road, two 2cv as well just for the grin factor. My first car was a new 1987 2CV. I even remember the reg number: E845HRF. I'm contemplating having a brand new one built with a galvanized chassis from The 2CV Shop down in Wiltshire. It'll cost considerably more than the £3450 I paid all those years ago! the2cvshop.co.uk/There's a company near Frankfurt that builds brand new DSs from the ground up. The quality is staggering - and so are the prices! 100,000 Euros for the saloon and up to 250,000 for the Chapron drophead. www.citroen-ds-manufaktur.com/angebote.php?lang=enBeautiful. Lottery win, thank you I'm on the plane.

Most of the great car names are from the past. For example, the Jensen Interceptor, one of the most evocative names of all. And despite British Leyland's reputation for churning out chronically toxic cars, at least they gave their Austin/Morris branded cars names. The Mini, Mini Metro (an alliteration!), Maxi, Marina, Princess, Ambassador etc. But some manufacturers also gave their cars "hidden" names. The legendary DS from Citroën, produced from 1955-75 was French for Goddess - Déesse. It's worthy replacement in 1974, the CX, rolls off the tongue - Citroën CX. But CX wasn't simply two letters. Cx is the French symbol for drag coefficient, and the big Citroën had the lowest drag coefficient of any production car when it was launched. I think it was 0.36. Not bad for 1974, when most car makers were still producing the aerodynamic equivalent of Welsh Dressers. Soft spot for Citroën, blame my dad. The DS was brilliant, rotted for fun unfortunately and the CX was just bonkers. Smoothest vehicles on the road, two 2cv as well just for the grin factor.

Dolomite, Stag, Herald, at least Triumph were giving it a go. Always fancied a Stag.
Edit: had a Herald, first car.
