You better be right knowles. The one thing we sturggle for is left wingers and Kewell would be an ideal guy to bomb up and down the wings with Lawrence supporting him on the other side. This would also mean TP would have no choice but to play Tuncay in the CAM role.

I rate the guy as a player but would have some fairly major reservations. He hardly played during his last 2 seasons in England with injuries. I confess I have no idea how he has been doing over there but maybe he is over his problems. He's also shown a less than endearing penchant for money over football in the past which is a little off-putting. Having said all of that, if he's fit and in good form and was keen to give it 100%, he IS a good player and would be worth signing.

Excellent player, still got several seasons left in him, and has a great CV at PL level. Could be just the sort of competition Etherington needs, unless we played Kewell in an attacking central midfield role alongside a defensive midfielder like Diao?

How old is he now? Does he have the legs to run at pace down the wing?

How old is he now? Does he have the legs to run at pace down the wing? 31, approaching 32. I still think he'd do a good job for us, personally.

Ethers has been doing well of late!
I guess this signing would mean the end of Tonge as well unless we keep him as back up to the centre?

Here's my version
Galatasaray’s Australian star Kewell is preparing to return to England. It’s been revealed that Kewell, who is being tracked closely by Stoke and Fulham, plans to leave GS in the winter break. According to Fotomac’s source, the star footballer, whose contract finishes this season, has not responded the offer of a renewed contract from GS.
It is claimed that Kewell, who has not yet responded to the offer of a new contract, plans to leave GS. Kewell is not getting on well with Manager Frank Rijkaard, and is disappointed at being on the sub’s bench, and his agent has begun meeting with English teams Stoke and Fulham.
Kewell’s wife Sheere has put pressure on him to return to England, and it’s been revealed that the player, whose contract finishes at the end of the season, could leave [not necessarily be allowed to from my understanding] in the midseason break. Kewell, who joined GS from Liverpool, played 36 matches in his first season, scoring 12 goals and claiming 5 assists, and has played 11 games this season, scoring 4 and with 3 assists
It's hard to tell if the club want to get rid (it just says 'he can leave, which could mean 'might' or 'has permission to') but if he's being frozen out anyway they might take a small offer in January.
Bit of a 'never lived up to the potential' player in my book. One for the dog's home?

As someone who started to watch Stoke in the waddo era, Kewell is just the sort of player waddo specialised in buying. Players who were probably past their best but who had enough skill to still cut the mustard at the top level.
Kewell would be a great addition. His time in Turkey suggests he is over his run of bad injuries AND he can still do the business on the pitch. His wife is English so he has every reason to want to come back to the Premiership. And he can operate across midfield and as a second striker. Just the sort of player I'd hoped we would be linked with if/when we got established in the Prem.
Got to be worth pushing the boat out for, I'd have said. And geographically we might be front runners as he has never played or lived in London in the past.

The Kewell family home is still in Hale, Greater Manchester. That would mean that a commute to Hale - Stoke for training/matchday is just over 30 miles.
I'm sure the Kewell family would be happy with that prospect. So long as there is genuine interest from our end.

I'd take him at the right wages. I'm not sure Fulham need him after signig Duff and we would location wise be the better offer. We defiantely need someone with his flare and he can also play in a number of positions too. My only question mark would be his injury record.

Not convinced really. At one stage during his days at Leeds he was exceptional but never really did it for Liverpool, and who can forget his 20 minutes on the pitch when Liverpool won the Champs League? IMHO if Kewell hadn't have gone off and Hamann not come on to shore up midfield they wouldn't have won.

Is this the start of the January speculation or have I missed that?
Would you put Harry K in front of Tuncay? They seem to occupy similar areas of the pitch.

Have to confess I'd forgotten about Harry Kewell since he left the UK. Honestly have no idea what standard he can play at now. It would be guaranteed airtime and PR if we did sign him though.

Not so sure about this one. Undoubted talent but seems to be money orientated and didn't do a great deal at Liverpool. His great performances for Leeds seem like an eternity ago.
