I thought Crossley was an excellent keeper when we had him and I was gutted to see him go at the time as I thought we could build a team around him to go up. Fox though mobile was too small for me as was Sinclair and Prudders, then we seemed to go through a stage of small keepers who couldn't kick the ball past the half way line ! Muggers and Tommy are good safe keepers for Stoke but really we havn't been bleased with great keepers in the last 20 years, someone once said even Shilton was shit for us ! then your back to Banks

1. Banks 2. Grobbelaar 3. Sorenson
Shilton was crap for us. Everytime we played Leeds, Peter Lorimer scored with the same dipping volley from an almost identical place. I'm stunned that more people didn't catch him out. Before he came here and after he left, he was fantastic, but for us he never gave it 100%.
Fox was consistently good, but rarely great, but I was delighted he got his 400th appearance at Wembley in the Autoglass when we beat Stockport. The board - Peter Coates et al - wouldn't let him reach that milestone or else they'd have to pay him a huge bonus. So we signed Ronnie Sinclair, an average keeper at best. The irony was that Sinclair had been cup-tied AGAINST US in an earlier round, so was ineligible to play in the later stages, which included the final.
I also think Crossley deserves an honourable mention for his sterling efforts, and Farmer for being a very good pro and a decent bloke.
Worst keepers in my time - Segers, Roger Jones and Marshall.
Oh, I almost forgot - Lawrie Leslie for slapping a young Alan Gilzean round the ear when he came in a bit late, against Spurs in 1963 or 64. First time I saw a referee give a full on, finger wagging, point-to-the-tunnel lecture.

The best three I have seen are:
1. Banks 2. Farmer 3. Fox
I am surprised that Shilton gets a mention as I think his spell at Stoke was probably the worst of his career. I think Hudson says in his book "Working Mans Ballet" that Stoke would have won the title if they hadn't signed Shilton and stuck with Farmer instead.
However, what makes the game so great is that everyone has different opinions and we all see things differently. Otherwise we'd have nothing to discuss if we all thought the same.

Nice to see a vote for Jimmy O'Neil, who kept goal when I started to watch Stoke. Very solid and reliable. I never feared he'd drop it when the ball was sent high into the box-which isn't something I can say for our current stopper. (Maybe I'm just getting older and more nervous?!) Bobby Irvine was indeed hapless. The poor guy couldn't stop anything. Lawrie Leslie, who came shortly afterwards, wasn't much better.

In my time: - Fox - Crossley - Sørensen
Honourable mention to: - Birkir Kristinsson - Gavin Ward (for saving THAT penalty against Bournemouth in April '00)
About Leigh Richmond Roose: 'For all this, Leigh Roose was prone to displays of bad temper throughout his club career, and once assaulted one of the Sunderland directors, beating him so badly that the Football Association banned him for 14 days.' ;D

Banks... Those who saw him will agree there's no contest for 1st place. Tommo.. (I really think he's up there) Fox .. (Will always be a Stoke legend in my eyes... LEGEND)
Honourable mentions for ... Farmer, Birkir K, Crossley, Kearton
Sorry but for his contribution to Stoke City, Shilton doesn't even come close to my top three...

Unfair to blame Shilts for losing the title butler. Denis Smith, in his auto biography stated that we needed a striker to replace John Ritchie who had retired through injury and Geoff Hurst who had retired. Instead Waddo went for Shilton when we already had a very good keeper in John Farmer. Shilton didn't get us relegated either it was the splitting up of a very competetive team to raise money to rebuild the butler street stand that cost us relegation. Its fair to say though that Shilts didn't have a good time with us tbh.

Banks Sorensen Fox
Worst has to be Gordon Marshall or Kevin Pressman
Remember Grobelaar and Southall - both 7-8 years too late in their careers arriving on loans.
Crossley and Nash were probably most important short-term signings in keepin us up and then getting us up.
