I am over here in Oz, where baseball is a big concern. My team the Tilba Foxes played our sister team the Tilba Cubs in the first grade grand final here and although we lost 9-7, I am the captain of the foxes and also coach the cubs too, so it was our more experienced (older) players v the exciting up and comers. Last innings man of the match and rookie of the year broke the deadlock by hitting a two run homer to win. yes, it is a great game. Love it!

Bumping this to celebrate the start of the new season. I'd strongly encourage you all to give the game a try this year. I just love it--it's my favorite sport. If you need a team, might I suggest my Boston Red Sox (I'm not a glory hunter--I live within an hour or so of the city, making the club the closest to me) who are defending World Champions and have returned almost the entire squad as they look to be the first team since 2000 to repeat.

Serious question, how do the Americans/baseball fans view cricket over there? Would have thought it would be quite marketable??

One of the only cricket clubs in the country is right down the street from where I live, and I go and watch them often on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm usually the only spectator, though, and everyone playing is Indian or Pakistani. I think it's commonly perceived as a "warped alternative" to baseball, which is already the least popular by far of the Big 4 professional sports (baseball, basketball, American football and hockey), and, frankly, most people in this country don't even understand the rules. Ignorance is mostly the problem, I believe.

Love it watch on BT sport all the time. It's so cheap to attend even the playoffs and world series are value for money.

Baseball viewership is still ahead of hockey, except maybe in Canada. I'm a Minnesota Twins fan since the early 80's when I lived in the Midwest. Nationals would be my second team as they are the local club now. Hate the damn Red Sox.
Cricket? Nope, nothing over here except maybe an occasional high-profile match if nothing else is happening, even then it's hard to get excited by scores that proliferate tediously into the multi-hundreds. Probably needed to grow up with it to appreciate it...
Wish they showed hurling and Australian rules football over here more often.

I suppose baseball and ice hockey are close to each other. Yes, NFL and NBA are pretty close, as they barely overlap and can dominate the market during their respective seasons.

Any if you guys living in States follow a team in NHL at all? I suppose it is more popular in Canada.

I've never taken to it on the telly, but when I was in Vegas last year we went to a game - brilliant to watch live, but Jesus Christ the games go on forever.

I've grown to really like it - especially with it being availble on TV and streaming here. I adopted the Mariners in 2000 after a road-trip to Seattle, but you have to watch a game fully to understand the scoring and some of the technicalities - it's really absorbing - moreso than cricket I'd say (sorry).
It also helped that my son wanted to play when we came back from a trip to the US a few years ago. That meant tracking down a reasonably local team with a junior section and swatting up on the rules of the game for him and me to get the most out of the sport.
We're really lookig forward to the MLB London Games in June. Hopefully it'll be a great day out like the NFL games have become.

Seen a few games in the US, St Louis in a night game and a blazing hot afternoon in Detroit in the 90s, loved the event, the atmosphere etc but could not fr the life of me get excited about the game. Do like basketball and ice hockey, we go watch TElford Tigers play the latter sometimes.
