Hardly a convenient time is it? This day should be about remembering what Sir Bobby gave to football, not incidents like this.

Thats true but when you see all the coverage on SSN from St James Park and how they supposedly worshipped him and then you read about incidents like that, it just shows how hypocritical they are I thought Bobby Robson was great, i cant say this about many people connected with football but hes a real loss

But it's easy to overlook now just how reviled Bobby Robson was for a long time. On a coach on the way to the WC quarter final in 86 the press were all taking the piss out of him. A friendly in Sadi Arabia and the plane was swarming with media. One was asked why. He said openly, "I'm here to fry Bobby Robson". Robson rarely received affection until the build up to Italia 90 when the scale and nature of the abuse he got actually turned the public on his side.

Look at what they did to graham taylor and (as much as i hate him) beckham. It goes way to far. They take so much personal plesure in crucifieing anyone they can, whether its deserved or not. They are the lowest of the low and if they all died tomorrow, the world would be a better place.

No place this argument.
The bloke was a legend and probably held values that most of us have.
Happy to do 5 minutes clapping. Top Man

When taylor got hammered it was nowhere near what Robson had to endure. Robson was unlucky to be there in the middle of a tabloid circulation war.
Remember also that hen poland knocked us out at Wembley the press were gleefully celebrating in the corridors. "We've got him now"
It all shows how the perception of football has changed since 1990.

I remember the stick Robson got in the press when he ws England manager. Yet when we look back now, he was our best manager since Sir Alf.
.........and if Newcastle hadnt sacked him as manager I dont think they'd be in the mess they are in now. Again I bet if they look back they'd rather they have kept him than the shite that came afterwrds.
A top manager who gave the nation some happy world cup memories and someone who came across as a gent and I think any football would say they had great respect for him.

Agree. If robson had carried on Newcastle would have continued to make steady progress. The image of Shearer sitting behind Robson mocking him at Villa is infuriating.

Im completely with him here. Been on SSN all day for Stoke updates and had to watch the geordies every 10 seconds talking about their messiah and how muc they loved him and how grieved they are. He was a great man, im not doubting that, great manager imo but for the geodies to have they hypocracy of this is laughable. They wanted him sacked when lying5th in the top flight of English football, as said above, they abused him to great levels for rightly dropping Keegan and they talk about how much they loved him.
Sir Bobby deserved better fans and better support than the geordies.

BOBBY ROBSON was a true england legend & top bloke, yes some dirty toon twats spat at him & hounded him out but let`s be sensible here & say the people laying flowers & shirts at sid james park most likely weren`t those who abused him, and those who did treat him like shit probably regret that now like ours with bally.
