jerseybean's thread about seeing Lou in town on GBD got me thinking about this - I still take it as a real compliment that Lou decided to settle here when he's got so many connections to pick up elsewhere, how many other non-natives who come to the club have settled here and become true honorary Stokies?
Big John has to be top of the list, Terry Conroy of course, there's Harry Burrows, from an earlier generation my dad used to know Les Johnston but there must be plenty more.
Wonder who out of the present squad will stick around, or are we in such different times now?

Denis Wilshaw captain until he broke his leg in 1961 or 1962 came from the West Midlands but lived in North Staffs (I think) until he dies a few years back.

He was a local lad in fact, Packmoor I think, and he taught locally all through his playing career although he played for Wolves and briefly Walsall on loan before coming back to play for Stoke. He lived in Seabridge for many years.

Cheers for that Sal. I'm sure you aren't trying hard enough to find my mistakes - there must be loads if you look hard enough.
Dennis was a smashing bloke - I used to cut his lawn for him that summer after he broke his leg. Very generous with pocket money he was! My parents knew him better than I did and still spoke fondly about him after they (my parents) moved away from North Staffs to Cambridge at about the time I went to college. My mum never really got over how far removed he was from her idea of what a typical footballer was like. ;D

Where's Huddy at the moment, is he in Leek or was that just a rumour? Hudson is still definitely in the area. See him regularly in The Princess Royal in Dresden and also had the honour to piss next to him ;D
