Thought it was an OK joke my self! It's what is commonly known as 'wanting to be part of the larger group', psychologically speaking. People tend to lose their individuality at such times and tend not to say much. Bit like those who follow the bully in the playground. The reaction is actually more amusing than the joke if you have studied psychology.
