I've been offered some work that would be really good for my career and my CV, and would be great for my professional development. It's also pretty well-paid.
BUT it's on Saturdays between March and June!! I live away so don't go to the games but I always listen to them online and that's my matchday experience. If I take the job I could miss the run-in (including any potential play-off games) of a truly historic season!
Aaaaarrrghh what do I do???

Become a professional footballer and sign a contract with Stoke, the pay's probably better AND you get to take part in the run in, not just observe it!

No kids, no mortgage. I'll get by without the cash.
Nice idea Boother. Anyone got TP's email address? I'll drop him my CV.

If it helps your career then go for it. The beauty of supporting a football club is it's like a family or a good friend, you might not see each other for a few months but you pick up like you've never been away........

Sorry mate, but you've just got to go to work and further yourself.
Let's put it this way, you never know what a bit of extra may lead to and maybe in the future you'll be watching the game in the best seats or even from the Directors Box.
Although I try like mad to avoid it, once in a blue moon I have to be away on business when Stoke are playing, but just console yourself with the fact that that there will soon be another match.
........tough choice all the same!!

Well this is the first season in six that I haven't been going regularly and as luck would have it, it looks like we're going to get promoted. Then next season I won't see us, and we'll stay up. Then the season after we'll still be in the Prem and get relegated, so when I do manage to next get a ST, we'll be back in the CCC.

During the Macari era we played Leyton Orient away in the Auto Windscreens cup thing on a Tuesday night. I just had to be at the game but couldn't get time off, I decided to ring in sick but if I rang in for the Tuesday they'd think it was sus so I'll have 3 or 4 days off to make it look more creditable. Needless to say they saw straight through it and sacked me for gross misconduct. We won that game and then went on to lift the cup. I went to every game that year. So my advice to you is fuck work and enjoy your football. jobs come and go but Stoke City is forever.

No disrespect to Mark71scfc, but do yourself a favour and don't listen to him. Career has to be put ahead of the Potters, it's a no-brainer.

They wanted me to work on a Saturday once when Stoke were playing so I cried like a little girl for two whole hours until they finally got sick of it and asked somebody else.

Sometimes reading this site makes me want to cry.
How can you compare listening to Stoke on the fucking radio to getting a decent living\job?
Watching the majority of Stoke games is about as entertaining as watching a porno full of fat ginger people so god knows what listening to it on the radio is like?

If its only short term and is likely to improve career opportunities etc then I would work. I currently work a fair few saturdays and it does annoy me. I still get to as many games as possible.

With the money you're about to earn, then maybe theres technology out there that you could travel around with enabling you to still listen online. Quite frankly if you cannot attend games in the past anyway then it aint such a big loss, so go for the job.
PS. I would go for the job anyway.

I have had various jobs over pat 5 yers, and for all i have requested (told them) i need saturdays off. Stoke comes before anything!
But saying that if your matchday experience is the radio just take some headphones and listen to it via ya phone or a portable radio thing!

Yeah but you take what you can get potters. I don't have the option of going to games, so listening is my going, if you see what I mean. I'm sure the other exiles know what I mean.

I'd normally say always listen to your heart, not your head because your heart's right 90% of the time, but if career is the big thing for you and you're in a lifetime job you believe in then I agree with all the sensible people.
