We aren't safe yet, but ask yourself this one question.
How many of the Teams below us would swop our points, postion and fixtures for theirs?
I think the "problem" is that we are actually in a far better position than most of us would dared to hope for at the start of the season.
If we had been offered the points and position of Hull at the start of the season, we would have grabbed it with both hands.
Tense? Yes. Scared? No.

I'll be shouting for Liverpoo today, then the best result for us with Castle and Boro would be a draw.
Newcastle have only won 6 all season I can't see them winning their last 4

TP said it on MOTD. This 40 points target is self-imposed, everyone else thinks we are safe on 39 points.
I did the predictor with every result going against us as badly as possible and although we go down it is only just.
Will Newcastle beat Liverpool, will Hull beat ManUre, or even will Hull win at Bolton?
We are as good as safe, so try not to worry and if I still haven't calmed your nerves, we are about to play at the club with the worst home record in the League followed by a home game against a team who are slipping towards the bottom of the form table.

Talked to a mate on way home yesterday (3 hours each way for me!) who is a Blackburn fan - he is worried even though they have Pompey at home then Chelsea then West Brom
Another work colleague is a proper/sensible Toon fan and thinks they are down
But for a bit of lady luck we could of got something out of Fulham and West Ham, but we didnt It is clear the team are knackered and many are carrying injuries that dont help (Matty, Rory and Ricci).
So would of loved it to have been put to bed yesterday, but West Ham were very good and played hard and defended heroically and that pains me to say as I really dont like their fans at all
So I am not scared but will remain nervous until the maths say otherwise - but looking at Pompey, Boro reactions, Blackburn mate, Sutton tiger (Hull) Toon chappie and Sunderland - wouldnt swap with any of them

I'm not the least bit scared. It would take a disaster of Biblical proportions for us to go down now. Do people really see any of those three at the bottom (or even Hull for that matter) overtaking us? It's not going to happen.

our "fortress" was breached easily by West Ham yesterday and Wigan won't just turn up to lose. I must have been at a different game

I honestly think that anyone who is not just that little bit worried cant have followed Stoke for long ! I have, and I'm not worried at all 8 points clear, 9 points to play for and Mr Binary Football himself in charge, IF (and its a very big IF) Newcastle and Boro and the other 4 teams start to close the gap, there is no better manager in football to have in charge to grind out that shocking 0-0 v wigan that we need
