i have to agree, i also dispise the word "soccer", a word that makes it sounds awful..... football is what best describes the game seeing as your foot is used the most, and was its original name when it was codified

I can't wait for this weekends soccer match between Stoke City Soccer Club and Newcastle United Soccer Club.
Stoke City will be wearing the red and white team jerseys and Newcastle the black and white team jerseys.
I hope we don't see any PK's in Newcastle's favour.
;D

EPL is not as bad as...
BT (the phone company which some bright spark called Beattie! and many have followed suit.)
Its Beattie B E A T T I E.
also,
Shawx
its Ryan or if you prefer, Shawcross, which is S H A W C R O S S.
needs no explaining does it really, which very unclever chavvy individual come up with that one?
All these abbreviations are as chavvy as it comes and very overused.

OK then if you insist! After Abbs i reckon our next best players have been: 1.) BT 2.) Shawx 3.) Wheels 4.) Wilks 5.) Lawro 6.) Higgsy Then it's a toss-up between TommyLad, Cresser or RingTone i guess

Well surely the English Premier Soccer League should be called the EPSL. It's the winningest term I can think of. Now can I get some of all you All Time Best (ATB) supportingest Stokerites to agree.

Did you pick up on the fact the Americans did not use an acronym for The War Against Terror ?

Global War on Terrorism (GWOT).
You are going to hear a lot more about "soccer" and the EPL now that Stoke City is a "global brand". Hopefully the $$$$$ going into the coffers makes up for the discomfort y'all! ;D

Soccer should never replace Football, its just the typical Americans changing everything and Americanising the world. Its also Arse not Ass, just for the record. The EPL is an advertising and international abbreviation which should never be used in out loud conversation.

Americanising, perhaps "trying to" was an over-statement but the use of Soccer in advertising and on the ammount of TV programmes which are American often have an impact on the use of language here in Britain. I call this "Americanising" Malvern.

I call this "Americanising" Malvern. I entirely agree with the sentiment and your use of the word 'Americanising' was obviously more subtle than I had realized at first. Nice one.

'Soccer' was actually a bi-product of the creation the the term 'association football' which was used to make 'football' distinct from its inbred cousin 'rugby football'. 'Soccer' and 'Rugger' were then coined at Universities in the late 1800's in England, not America.
It maybe seen (and certainly it is where the term became popular) as an Americanism, but the word is actually English, they've just given it back to us (or forced it upon us) scented with the unmistakable American odour of Corporate bullshit, carried in the steriod filled jowels of money-driven fame-whores.
