Apologies to all you proper artists out there, none of that fancy photoshop stuff here, this was quickly knocked together with Paint and some nifty copy and paste action! This is my idea of how they should best fill the two corners in - no point for me making the capacity anything stupid like 38-40k, as it wouldn't be filled, so here is my concept. Note I have bought the old scoreboard back too :-) I miss it. Thoughts and other budding architects solutions welcome!

I don't think it would be asking too much to put a roof on!!!!

Good work. Only thing I would say is that the score board has to face the directors' box as it is they that pay for it.
I wonder what others think about the way WBA filled their corners?

Do you think we'd be looking at something like the main stand corner at the Riverside, being as ours is virtually identical?

If they filled the corners in like the first pics i'd be very disappointed, looks very messy.
If you want to see what our stadium would look like with the corners filled in, prob best to look at Derby's stadium.

I'm sure it would look better if done properly :-)

Isn't the Riverside a complete silent tomb of a place though? Soulless at best!
I like being able to look down into Stoke or have some break in the 'bowl' - Keep the stands sort of square.

JimmyG - I reckon the roof could cost a lot.
They could be cheaper seats or only used as an overflow?

It's a good idea to fill in the corners but this is a penny-pinching scheme which would look messy and unsatisfactory. An architect would not be needed for this. In my opinion, it should be done properly first-time with a roof to match the existing roof. The Riverside looks like the sought of design which should be used as an example.

I think we can survive a few more years without a windbreak, the wind certainly doesn't help our cossetted betters. But we do need a few more seats (with a roof) - probably fit a couple of thousand in the south east corner by sweeping round and joining the two stands together, same basic construction. Linking the west stand in the corners I guess would be more expensive if we want it to look nice. I think eventually 34/35k capacity is for when we show that we still need more capacity after a couple more years in the prem. Should be able to afford it by then. Partially empty stadiums lack atmosphere ask Bolton, Wigan, Blackburn, Sunderland, Boro. The 80:20 rule I think 80percent full only 20percent of the atmosphere. As for cost 2000 season ticket at £350 gives £700k per season plus the extras, programmes, catering, merchandise. New sponsors, debentures/whatever. Should pay back pretty quickly. If the worst happens in a couple of years time check out the gates in the CCC a lot are averaging 20k+ and a few more premiership teams will be dropping in there from time to time - that looks like their gates are increasing year on year. So save money with a big no to the windbreak and a bit of belief that we can bring in 30k each match

It would make sense to seat the Seddon/Seat corner first, and even though I`m no builder, I cant see that causing a great problem, other than where to put the scoreboard. No idea how much it would cost, maybe 1-1.5 million??
It would give us roughly another 1500 seats. Personally, id stick the away fans over there and put home fans behind the goal where visitors currently sit. This gets Stokies properly behind both goals and near to the tunnel

the problem is that the boothen is lower than the js stand and so to join them up it would look messy, the only way they could make it look good imo is to raise the height of the booten and the seddon now i think about it (being joined to the boothen and that) by riasing the roof and sticking a couple of extra rows of seats in.
AND then filling the courner in ;D

Possibly one way of doing it, but that would be mega expensive, you would be raising the capacity of the seddon and boothen which would mean the concourses below would need extending out aswell. We would end up with a capacity of about 40.000 (way too much)
The only way to seat the JS/Boothen corner is by following the JS stand around in a similar way to Middlesborough (see Fuller Magic`s post above).

The corner where the score board is would be the best, easiest and cheapest option.
Can't understand why they put the screen there in the first place, seating is the best option for that corner anyway, taking the home support all the way round into the south stand without any gaps.
Screens should not be fitted where seats can be fitted. They should be on the roof or somewhere on a stand wall. If WBA can manage 2 screens in their ground without losing seating then credit to them for doing it right.
Shame about their team on the pitch though. Wembley is another stadium where the screens should be attached to the roof and seating put in place of the existing screens.
The first option for a football stadium is to fill it with as many seats as possible, the more the better.

The first place to start (according to my architect friend) is The Boothen..this can be extended round towards the John Smiths but not joined to it...adding between 1,500 and 1,750 seats...This would bring total capacity to 30,000 giving us UEFA 4 Star Status...This is very straightforward to do and would simply involve extending the seating area and the roof but not joining it to the JS...
Next would be to join The Seddon with the South Stand...which would mean re-locating the scoreboard...and joining two stands together as well as connecting both roofs...This would cost far more than The Boothen extension and would add about 1750 to 2000 seats...
The final corner would be the most expensive of all..and would involve knocking the club-shop/offices/changing rooms down...relocating them, and extending The South Stand towards the John Smiths (like The Boothen extension) adding a further 1750 seats...
With all three corners filled the capacity would be about 34,000 and the cost at current prices would be about 20 million (6 million more than we payed for the whole of The Britannia Stadium)...

That can't be done as the people in the corner right next to the John Smith's wouldn't be able to see most of the pitch, the corner would have to be the same height as the JS.

I don't know why they don't build a decent sized ticket office and shop on the other side of the car park near the foot bridge to the Incinerator.
