I honestly think the Shearer thing could help us.
It was worrying me a bit that loads of Stoke fans were counting Newcastle at home as a definite three points I felt the atmosphere could dip as it did against other 'lesser' teams.
But with Micky Quimms comments and Sheareres appointment I think the Stoke fans will be fired up more for this game than any other and as a result expect us to give them one hell of a game.
The Geordies have always been ridiculously over confident and they actually think they are a big club! The fact that Oxford Wimbledon and many other little clubs have won major trrophies since they have doesn't seem to make them realise they are nowt!
Still roll on putting a nail in their coffin

Everyone will now want to beat Newcastle even more, so it could work against them. There was little pressure on them prior to Shearer as most had them going down anyway, now the whole circus will follow them right to the end, building massive pressure on themselves.

On the other hand it could have a Keegan effect and they could go on a run. A positive result at the weekend against Chelsea will give them impetus.
IMHO it's a toss of a coin how he will fair. It really is the last throw of the dice for Newcastle.

not quite `shitting myself`, i did that at the start of the season before i realised the prem is brimming with clubs like newcastle who `think` they`re better than stoke but in reality aren`t. more likely is that the newcastle fans will be shitting it when the shearer bandwagon goes titties up & how we`ll all enjoy that. ;D

Shearer has no charisma whatsoever I just dunna see how he can go in a turn things around. Even there first messiah was struggling. Let them believe that they are far far to big and good to go down and if it happens let us all bask in the glory of seeing them all jumping into the Tyne when they do

not forgetting that our very own man mountain in Abdy will have a rather large point to prove....should be fun watching him annihilate that little shearer love-in bubble that they're living in

They really do think that Shearer will get them out of this rut, do they not realise that its there players who are shit and that the teams they have to face are near impossible to beat with there current team. How could anyone with such a fixture list be so cocky?

Its just hype from beginning to end. How many messiahs do they need to make a poorly assembled team with a long injury list win matches? Its all froth and hot air that comes and goes like cheap firework.
They are an emotional wreck of a football club and this is another just another episode of the NUFC soap. The only thing about them that I envy is the 50,000+ support.

I too think it merely focus's us more.
Eight games from the finish they've done worse than us (who would have bet on it) so we dont need to worry about them. We need to concentrate on us.

i agree, his appointment is going to put some fire in our bellies, and also, if we loose its less depressing as we can put it down to the new manager effect and move on. there are plenty of teams in as much shit as us and i still think castle are going down so lets make it fucking happen sooner rather than later

This Shearer thing is laughable.
He cares. Absolutely no question about it. But do you think Coloccini does? or Gutierrez? or Owen? Or Viduka, Martins, Duff, Enrique or any other of the sub-par fuckers that have been there all season?
No they don't...three quarters of their squad are off at the end of the season and couldn't give a shit either way. The one thing you need at Stoke is heart, and they haven't got any. They'll lose tomorrow unless they score in the first 20 minutes and they'll lose to us because they won't have the minerals to stand toe to toe against us. I admire Shearer for taking the job on, but the notion that he's a cure-all is soon dismissed when you find out the man patching the gaps in his knowledge is iain Dowie.

Hopefully by the time we've played them the gap will be bigger than the gap between the front part of Shearer's hair and the rest of it.

You gotta love those clubs who think they are so unique and complex that only an insider will be able to understand the passion required to take the job. It really is trying to clutch onto some imagined past glory. Look where it got the Vale as a tactic!

Does anyone else think the Shearer thing is all hype to cover up the fact the Dowie will actually be managing them? Absolutely. Shearer's only there as a sweetener for the fans. There's no way Ashley could have brought in Dowie on his own. And they've gone for it - hook, line and sinker. ;D

All in all, I'd have preferred it if they had just kept it as it was. It can't get worse at Newcastle so there are only two possible outcomes (a) It will stay the same or (b) It will get better. Unfortunately I think it will probably get better. Fortunately, it will have to get a lot better to beat us at The Brit.

On the other hand, couldn't they just go on a run like they did when Keegan appeared last year and lose lots of games in a row?
