i aint botherd how the goals go in as long as they do, i bet that we are looking at that young icelander at coventry too. the fact that everybody else doesnt like the throw makes me like it even more, if they dont like the throw, the answer for them is simple, deal with the throw so its not such a weapon. ;D we need to stick to what we know for the first 2/3 seasons to establish ourselves, stick to buying the giants imo and keep ruffling the feathers.

Agree with RVD on this one, in the 06-07 season he was absolutely piss fucking poor, missed a hatful of goals from 6 yards out, I distinctly remember commenting on him being wank numerous times, and i was absolutely amazed when he got all those goals early on in 07-08. Done nothing since he went to man city which is understandable, but i still don't tihnk that makes him good. He had half an excellent season in a good FA cup winning pompey side with plenty of service surrounded by players like diarra, utaka, krancjar (sp), I just don't think he has the attributes to excel in a side like ours where our strikers are so isolated for such a high percentage of the game.

Nope to benjani and big nope to the talk of cisse on here. The bloke is a proven bad egg and would consider himself above the rest of the players at stoke. Defo a bad idea imo. I reckon we need a pacy front man, maybe frazer campbell would fit the bill?

'We want better than this'
Yeh - Lets pop a cheeky bid in for Drogba - Snip at £20M
Some of you need to take a reality check

Exactly. Benjani is a player we would have looked at this season, however next season (assuming survival) we need to be looking at better than him to progress, and we would be ableo to attract better aswell

Surprised he didn't sign in January - he would step straight into the Mama role.
Would be a good signing if he didn't cost too much.

I'd take him, without being too enthused. He's not done a great deal for Manchester City but if he could recapture some of his Pompey form he could be good for us.

Benjani is earning probably £50K a week, his transfer to Man City was (in total) around the £8m mark.
We may be able to get him for a few million and pay him, what, £30-35K per week. Now assuming we can stay in the Premier does anyone really think that we can attract / afford players who will cost more / demand a greater salary ? Of course not.
Im happy to be linked to this player IF the price is right - We are Stoke not fucking Chelsea
THATS my point

Had we signed him in January, it would have been for a fee just shy of £8M, personally, I think we got much much better value with Beattie

Agree with monkey re: Beattie
But 'for that sort of money' Id like to know who there is available thats better - There arent many 'mid table- Premiership' standard strikers available for less are there ?

I'm not saying I would not like both, but we were not going to sign both in Jan, so I think we got the better deal at the time

Agree with monkey re: Beattie But 'for that sort of money' Id like to know who there is available thats better - There arent many 'mid table- Premiership' standard strikers available for less are there ? It all depends on the teams promoted/relegated in May and who other teams sign to free up other players. Looking abroad would be one option. Wigan brought in Zaki from nowhere in the summer and look at the job he's done for them, even if he has quietened down recently. Santa Cruz only cost Blackburn £3.5m. We could take a chance on a McCormack or one of his ilk from the Championship. Doyle if Reading don't go up? In the Prem, I'm not convinced Ismael Miller's any worse than Benjani and he'd cost far less and IMO, fit into our style of play. Frasier Campbell maybe? Danny Welbeck on loan looks a real prospect, it'd be a gamble, but an exciting one. Then there's the Anichebes, Tuncays, Caicedos. Nugent has looked half-decent this season. Darren Bent will want someone to end his Spurs nightmare. Cisse? I'd take any of them over Benjani, who I really don't rate to be honest.

Agree with RVD , alot of strikers in the Prem are better than Benjani. How about Jo, he's only on loan there and we could sneak a bid in when he gets back
