the most important stretch of games in recent Stoke City history ?? 4 games that can be ? should be ? must be ! all won ?? hmmm !! no telling, but just based purely on who the opposition are (and their repsective places in the league), the need for the points is an opporutnity that cannot be missed !! im looking for 12 points out of 12 !! ;D

I think expecting 12 points is extremely optimistic but hey! it might well happen. I would still be confident of survival if we get 8 points from these 4 games.

In some ways they are the most important 4 games since the early 70's and we had the Title within our grasp.
Lets hope things go better this time round!
The future of the club for the next decade is likely to be decided between now and the end of May. Staying up will be a far greater achievement than being promoted in the first place.

6 points would be wonderful.
It simply beggars belief that anyone might seriously expect us to win 4 from 4 when we have just won 2 from 15.

Yes it is a bit unrealistic Gods but it's that stage of the season when the nerves are ripped to shreds and its a case of who handles it best. Can't blame folk for looking at our next 4 fixtures and expecting decent points but we know it rarely works like that. If we win 2 of the 4 and scape another couple of points I would be more than happy and I think it might be enough for us come the end of the season. People will clearly identify where or chnces are to collect the points but I don't care which games they come from as long as we get them. I know I'm going over the top but we could actually lose every single one of them, and win the next 4. I know that won't happen but the 12 points would be just as welcome in that scenario although I would probably have died of heart failure before the Arsenal game.

ok Doz, I just hate it when people do false hope on here!
If anyone really believes we will win the next 4 they should get down to the bookmakers rather than waste time arguing with me.
I reckon you would get 100-1 at least on us winning the next 4. Would be £10,000 on a £100 stake.
Won't be risking it myself though!

8 is a bare minimum, and right now if you offered me 8 or 9 I'd say 8 just so we kept the other teams from winning.
Two must win games are Castle and Boro, we can get away with drawing the other two, but it'd still be a bit of a missed opportunity IMO.

evans; If we got 8 mate we'd probably only need another 3 or 4 with 5 games to go. With home games V W/Ham & Wigan + Fulham and Hull away, I think we'd probably be OK! and if not we've got the easy 3 points on the last day!!!!!

Yes, I think 9 points is minimum. NINE points? A minimum? From four games? Even a pessimistic estimation would only put us needing 13 points from the rest of the season, that would leave us with four points to get from five games - by a more realistic estimation it would be two points. Saying eight or nine points is a bare minimum is ludicrous exaggeration. In fact I'd venture that if we got that from the next four games we'd be as good as safe.

Don't forget we do have the 7th best home record of any club in the league and that has been against teams which are, on average, better then the 3 we face in our next home games. I'd be very disappointed if we don't get 7 points from those 3 home games and I wouldn't be surprised to get 9. Nothing is certain, of course, but we should go into any game with the Baggies quietly confident of getting a point if not three.
12 points might require some good luck but is quite possible - 9 or 10 is quite likely and I'll be surprised if we don't get 8.
As to how important the four games are - I'd say the two or three occasions where we have gone into the last 4 games of the season with a decent chance of finishing as champions (of the old div 1) were more important but that is just a personal opinion.

we need 9/10 or at the very most 11 points between now & the end of the season so no the next 4 games are NOT must win games
5 points wouldnt be a disaster.
anything above 7 points from the next 4 games & we can all relax for the last 5 games.
less than 5 points would be a worry but would still lave us needing 6 points or so from 5 games.
chill.

Has it not occured to any of you that these games may be harder if the teams come and defend as that top team West Brazil did - the away ones may be our best chance! And I can't believe I just typed that

It will be interesting to see how Boro, Blackburn and Newcastle approach a game at Stoke. A must win fixture with harder games elsewhere (on paper), or a match they must not lose.
I've no idea how these games will go to be honest, knowing Stoke they will put us through the wringer and collect 4 points.
I have some optimism though. I know a lot of people quote Hull and Fulham as similar games where we only drew, but we've also had convincing home performances and victories against lesser sides (and no team outside top 6 have beat us yet - 18 points out of 24) - and that with a considerably weaker Stoke side that we currently able to field.

10 points would be great, unbeaten would be the same. No matter what, lets just concentrate on this saturday, and start off with 3 points. Anything less than a win would be a disaster.

Lakeland, with that last post you have blown your cred as the "voice of reason" on this message board!
>>12 points might require some good luck but is quite possible
Oh yeah?!
Though it will give me no pleasure I have made a note to retrieve this comedy moment in 4 games time...

Go for it Gods - I'll be a legend if/when it happens! ;D
Incidentally, I have NEVER regarded myself as the voice of reason - I'm as capable of talking as much bollox as anyone - although obviously not on this thread!

Just take each game as it comes. A lot will have happened before we play Blackburn; there's no point looking that far ahead (moreover, I don't see it as a particularly easier, or more difficult, game than West Ham or Wigan).
As it stands at the moment, if things go according to plan (as they probably won't), we'll be in a strong position if we beat both Boro and Newcastle. But Boro's the game for now; just put everything into that.
It really is impossible to look too far ahead or forecast results with much accuracy. For example, but for our poor away record, the match at a safe Fulham could well offer the opportunity for points (see Hull and Blackburn) whilst, despite form, we are bound to slip up at least once at home.

Lakeland - it's me that previously considered you to be the "voice of reason" - self praise would of course be no praise!
4 wins from 4 after 2 wins from 15...you'd have to be a fully paid up member of the Flat Earth Society to think that would happen!
Remember this is our beloved scfc - the whiff of crushed expectations is sadly never too far away!
