The only reason we give the home team a head start is that we're not a very good side.
Let's face it, if we'd set out to attack we might have been 3 or 4 down at half time with NO chance of coming back.
He sets his team out to get to half time level (but we're not good enough) and then hopes to get something second half.
I, for one, think his tactics are correct (Just a shame were not a little better)

bayern:
No I'm not!
We are one of the worst 3 or 4 teams in this league, TPs tactics of trying to reach half time in contention is, in my view, the correct tactics. We then hope to take something second half.
You pay no heed to the opposition at all and yet, they are almost all better than us.
Your only cry EVERY FUCKING GAME, is TPs tactics/team selection are shit.
Perhaps he should seek your advice on how to keep us in this league.
Fuckin Moan, Moan, Moan every fuckin away game
GIVE IT A REST!!!

Yeah, its just me that thinks we're wank at away games! ;D They are hard games but the way we go 2/3 down without trying is really frustrating. And yes it usually starts with TP making a hash of the starting XI. You are trying to defend the undefensible this season and that is the away performance.
We need to play at a high tempo and cling on for dear life, its obvious! Just as Beattie and Mama up front not working and Diao playing cack. The away form, tactics and performances on the whole have been shit and it is undefendable. The results show that.

How many times!
Our poor away performances centre on the fact that most of the teams we play are BETTER than us and put us under pressure on their own ground. We haven't been GOOD ENOUGH to keep them out but that has been the plan.
Short of having several better players than we've got, we're stuck with it.
I know you'd love us to 'go for it' away from home but I guarantee you we wouldn't be sitting on 29 points now if we had.
By the way, were doing OK today. Or are Everton shit as well.
We should be hammering these sides shouldn't we?
As for your comment 'The results show that'. Bullshit
The results show we are one ogf the weaker teams in the division (which we are).

I don't want us to go for it away from home at all! Just mix it up a bit and look interested. The away games I've seen we've looked lacklustre and like we know we're already beat.
And I don't expect us to win today but going a few goals down in quick time has happened too many times this season for it to be "one of those things". Yet going off that, the home results show we're one of the better teams! We're a better team than You and a lot of the experts give credit too imo.
I just want to see our best team starting, us not letting 2/3 in the first half which we've done all season and us actually winning a sodding away game. Because if we don't we go down imo.

We are a good home team because the opposition give us more respect on our own pitch and we get the chance to play more.
When we go away they ALL expect to beat us and put us under relentless pressure which we have, so far, failed to cope with.
We,ve been trying to do something this second half and Everton have just sealed the game 3-1.
Face it Bayern, our problems revolve around a lack of real quality.

I don't think they do. Our problems lye around TP not changing our tactics away from home. We go away pull our pants down and take a length without even trying. Today we didn't start with our best team-why? It makes no sense. I never expected us to win today, I never expected us to draw but I did hope we'd start with our better players and not do the same old thing of going a couple down before half time.
And I could take these beatings if we had looked like we were going to try and change what we do but we haven't. We have let it happen and its crap!

Stokie 1000:
The answer is obvious. Everton thought they'd won the game at half time and eased off (hence the half time substitutions).
We then get the chance to press a bit more and rattle them.
Third goal killed it.
Beat 3-1 by a much better team. Accept it!

I accept they're a better team but the way we go about away games is shocking. I expected nothing bar a defeat today but that team selection just made the game harder for ourselves and it showed!

Stokie 1000:
Thanks for childish retort!
Where have I EVER said we're not good enough to stay up????????????
What I have said if you look at this, and several other threads, is that our defenders (Higgy and Wilco in particular) are poor passers of the ball. Our 2 CM players arn't much better in their distribution and, in the Everton game, Mama didn't hold the ball up as well as he can. That means that we give the ball away all the time and it comes back at the defence in wave after wave. In those circumstances, defenders make mistakes as they are constantly under pressure and we conceed goals. Add to that, our goalkeeper (who has been very good this season) made a couple of howlers and THAT IS THE REASON WE WERE 2 GOALS DOWN. You lot are forever looking at TP's tactics for the reasons for defeat rather than accepting that, against better sides, we will struggle because our defending/distribution and ball retension are poor. The fact is; IF we could pass the ball to our own players and retain possession for more than 10 seconds at a time his tactics would be perfectly valid. We'd get to half time in contention and then bring on Fuller/Etherington to run at the opposition and get better results. It doesn't work because of our lack of quality NOT a failing in our tactics.
In recent games we have 'had a go' second half as you say because we have to as we are 2 goals down but Pulis would have always sent them out to 'have a go' second half but he would have hoped that we were level at least. Midfield/Defensive errors have cost us because, as I stated earlier...
We lack quality.
That doesn't mean we won't stay up and I believe we will because our home form will keep us up. We get more opportunity to pay at home because teams give us more respect at the Brit and we don't get put under the same pressure.
I was going to call you a childish little twat at the end of my post but I won't as I'm a grown up!

Just what the hell was up with Tommy yesterday...just watched the goals again on SSN and the first 2 goal were a disaster. One mistake is normally forgivable but there were quite a few from the normaly sound Tommy. Just hope that is all of them out the way now.
Bring on the Boro!!

Yeh, difficult to criticise him Barry as he's been good all season.
Trouble is when your goalie cocks up, it invariably costs you.
