the debate whirls around in my mind (small so only a bit of a whirl really)
assuming we go 4:4:2
for me
a progressive one i.e. Etherington, Delap, Whelan and Lawrence
and we go for three points straight from the off
my only uncertainty really is whether Id put Amdy Faye in for Delap (i.e. lose the throw and forward runs but, more solidity in our own half)
Tough but pleasant choices for supertone !

Got to, got to play Whealan and Faye in the middle. Lawerence is a must on the right. I'm not sure if Ethers will start or delap. It would be superb if Ethers came on for the last half hour.
Lawerence, Faye, Whealan, Ethers. God how good is that!

I will be amazed if he doesn't play Rory, especially, with how Howard was flapping at his throws in the first game

Mark that is an absolute quality midfield but its to attacking for pulis and we all know it.Lawrence maybe put back to the bench with delap coming in so ethers can be put back on the left.

We need to win a game away from home - why not saturday ?
even if not fully match 'savvy' Id put Ethers straight on and say, 'run til you drop son'

Delap, Diao, Whelan, Etherington Yes Rob, it wouldn't surprise me that much if Liam was left out either.

How can he leave Whelan out?

Surely Whelan is undroppable after his last 2 games?
Normally you'd say Diao was a guaranteed starter for Pulis, especially in an away game but the way he was subbed early against Bolton raises the possibility that Pulis too is getting a bit exasperated with his form.
I suppose you can only really see one of Lawrence and Etherington starting. Hard to guess which one with concerns over Etherington's match fitness after his 5-wk lay-off.
I like the idea of Delap partnering Whelan, where he shone in the latter half of last season but you'd guess Pulis wouldn't go that way and will want Delap to line up on one of the wings as a more conservative option.

Diao has to be dropped on current form. Pugh is a better option than Sal at the moment. We’ve seen players come back stronger after being dropped/rested; it’s gotta be time for Diao to step aside.
Whelan has to play on current form and Ethers too as he is the only option we have who can beat players and run with the ball and take pressure off our defence. It’s a choice between Delap and Amdy as the holding role alongside Glen IMO and at home I’d start with Lenny too.

I can't understand how people can say Lawrence can be dropped. He's the best right sided midfield player we've got by a country mile. Last season he was the opta Championship player of the season, his delivery of dead balls is simply superb. The bloke runs his cock off supporting attack and defense all game long.
For me no one come even close to taking his position.

Lawrence ,Whelan, Faye, Etherington would be my preference. More likely to be
Delap, Whelan,Faye, Etherington.
I hope no Salif because he has slowed to an alarming extent and is getting caught in possession a lot. I also hope we dont start with Delap the long throw has not been at all successful away from home and I think Amdy Faye and Whelan is our best central pairing but I dont think the character of our manager would allow us to start with Liam and Etherington.

i wouldn't be surprised to see
Amdy, Whelan, Diao, Delap.
How disappointing would that be?!

We are blessed with two in form wide attacking midfielders i.e. we've got now - Etherington undoubted quality 'chomping at the bit' and, an almost telepathic understanding with Beatts from the off - and Liam thankfully, pretty much back to his old self now.
both pretty much undroppable in my book - its the centre mid positions up for grabs now and Whelan is now too 'undroppable' leaves one spot up for grabs (imho)

I think it will be... Lawrence, Diao, Delap, Etherington Knowles do you think he will really drop Whelan? IMHO that would be rank bad management of the first order. Not only is Whelan the most in form central midfielder at the club, but surely his exclusion would send out completely the wrong message to the rest of the dressing room. IE: Diao has one of his worst games in a Stoke shirt in the last match whilst Whelan has one of his best, but Glenn still can't keep his place, whilst Diao does. I'm not saying that he will drop Diao, but surely if he was to drop Whelan, then just what sort of message would that send out to the rest of the squad?

Was going to start a thread about this, but ths question falls nicely into this thread. Can Rory take a run up for his throws at Goodison or is the pitch on a mound ? and if so will it have any impact on TP selection.

I think even witout his throws Rory should be one of the 1st names on the team sheet. He is a good strong midfielder and makes excellent forward runs. I would love to see tone play ethres and Liam in the same team but unfortunately i cant see that as it would mean Rory and Whelan in the middle and a team without a holding midfielder, i.e. Diao/Faye, is something i cant see TP going for unfortunately
