and ten years ago. What changed between then and now? He did nothing but piss everyone off for years then takes a back seat for the Icelandics only to buy back the club and pump millions in and sees us to the Premiership? What happened? And does anyone out there still hold a grudge against him? I don't, but can easily remember a time when he always made excuses and bad decisions. Anyone else any idea of what changed him?

i hated him for a long time
i honestly think he didn't really have the money to run the club
the icelanders paid hi a fair wedge, and he still retained an option to buy back and a position within the club
he's much better off now and has found a manager he likes, so he's put in the investment.
there was a time when i said some terrible things about him, but life is short, we are in the prem, the club is changing for the better, so i am slowly erasing those dark days from my mind!

Ah, but I am 7th in line out of 8, so by the time they and my wife have had their turn, 8th in line starts crying and I get sod all time on here(usually). Didn't Coatesy like Macari too? Obviously didn't have the cash then, I suppose.

his age would definately play a part - he wants to leave a legacy behind
also he is significantly wedged this time around... makes life easier
what happens when he decides to retire, god only knows... how old is he? anyone know?

The fear of thousands of stokies charging towards the main stand again only this time with a rope made into a noose?

£200 million (ish) happened. As said above, he didn't really have the money to make the difference before but he does now. I suspect Pesch was sold simply because he needed the money for his business at the time. The fact that he fecked things up big time last time around probably gives him even more incentive to use his newfound riches to erase the bad memories and build up a lasting and positive legacy.
I was pleased to read in the latest issue of "Potters" magazine that he does intend to get the club to a point one day where it should be self supporting. That should give him the incentive to stick around for a few more years!

Revenue for this year might be close to £50 million but we'll still make a hefty loss. If we stay up then thuings might be better in future years because we won't have to buy the sheer numbers of players we did this year and we'll have players to sell for reasonable fees. The big thing has to be the Academy though. Hopefully Holland will eventually produce Prem standard players or players who can be sold for decent fees.

The difference now is that he is in a no lose situation. He knows that he will personally lose not one penny.
In fact he will make a profit whatever happens.
Coates is no different than he ever was.
