Was in my (Upper Main) queue on Wednesday, when the fella behind me was having words with his young daughter. "Now don't forget, we're at the Brit tonight, so I want no mention of the Vale or Man Utd. Not a word". I grinned at him and he explained that it was her first match at Stoke and he was hoping to win her over. I said that I'd had no trouble in being won over, at her age, and wished him luck. Just hope that she doesn't meet a life partner whose job is 180 miles away.

some great posts on this thread.
You only have to walk around the city to see the smiles back on kids faces as they wear the stripes with pride.
Since she was 6, my 9 year old would always wind me up by saying, "Dad, I think I'm going to support Man United or Chelsea".
The usual reply was "no problem sweetheart, I'll look into getting you fostered by some scumbag family in Manchester or West London. You'll see us on your birthday, I'm sure".
She soon shuts up.
Now? She will be having her first season ticket next year as she too watches SSN instead of CBBC etc. She loves Stoke and I am now looking at my phone pic of her and Ricardo taken at he ground last Saturday.
I will support Stoke whatever - the Prem is just a bonus for me. But the real joy I get is seeing this city's kids, a whole generation of new Stokies, so so proud in their football club.

Well. NOW it is. A few years back when people used to ask "Who do you support", the general answer would be Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea etc.. Now if I ask people they are saying "Stoke, been going all my life " I smell glory huntards.

Coming to the end of high school and i only just started to get forgiven for supporting the potters. In primary skwl i got ridiculed by liverpool fans everyday as everyone in the school supported them. Especially after losing 8-0. But now i'm the one laughing as they now all seem to have season tickets and be 'life long supporters !'

Last year I was forcing the idea of stoke on my class (9/10 year olds) and they mocked me haha (except for 1 or 2).
This year they are loving us, around about 90% of the class are now little stokies! Only one has resisted the conversion completely.
I will take as much credit as the increased media exposure however, as stoke is all they ever hear from me ;D

In answer to the original question - no. For every team outside the big four, you only get kids supporting them because they have some sort of connection with the club (parents from Stoke; live in Stoke, etc.).
When kids with absolutely no connection with the club nag their parents to buy a Stoke shirt from the JJB Sports Shop in Milton Keynes, where it's displayed with the Manure, Arsenal, Chelski and Liverpool shirts, then you will know it is cool to support Stoke. BUT it will never, ever happen.

...and amen to that. I quite like our closed shop.
(quite literally and ironically for the amount of stock our club shop has in).

No it's not cool to Stoke, even now we're in the Prem we aren't the same as the rest, long throw, 6ft + stereotypes etc. The difference is this is what sets us apart and makes us unique, that it what's attractive IMO. I went to Primary school in Stafford after moving from Hartshill and there was me and one other lad who supported Stoke in my year, the rest we're shit or Wolves/WBA/Villa. So that was tough, also I've got four cousins : 2 Manure, 2 Liverpool. They know nothing about football may I add.
