Spain are a lot better than us - just accept it and move on Spain are a lot better than any team in the world at the moment on the show of last night's match. It was an awesome performance by them. As for England, I don't think they did a lot wrong. They had the odd couple of half-chances but didn't take them and were just outclassed by a better side with more ability. If anything can be learned, we've just been shown the standards we have to achieve to win a tournament. A long way to go but at least we're moving in the right direction.

well said. England lose to the European Champions and Number 1 rated tam in the world , in Spain, and that is a disgrace ?? We didnt exactly play our strongest squad, last time i checked, games like these, i.e. friendlies, are to see what's up. who can do what, try a new player here, an new tactic there. I think Capello and his overall attitude towards football in general is such a breath of fresh air compared to managers and years gone by !! England will be in the World Cup and by the time it comes time to play next year, England will be ready !!

I thought last night we reverted back to the stupidity of passing the ball just for the sake of it, I also thought Spain were as guilty of it too. We had ali bongo on who can run on to balls played over the top and guess what hardly anything was played to him.
All we seemed to do was pass the ball back for us to then move to the half way and pass the ball back again...The first goal came from pissing about in the wrong half of the field. Ok the goal was pretty damn good but it came from a mistake.
Capello has a fair way to go yet to turn us into anything near a world beating team but improvements are starting to sneak in.
Just one more thing do we have a better option than Cashley Cole at LB he is shit?

capello is doing a great job, personally i dont look at results in friendlies, yes its nice to win but that doesnt win you tournaments. come the qualifiers this bloke will get it right as he as done already. lets face it, this week weve seen two outstanding performances, brazils and spains! them two teams are not only a mile ahead of us theyre a mile ahead of any other national team.

I'm sick and tired of reading all the posts from the Capello Hating Wankstains who couldn't wait to start moaning after our defeat to Spain. Get a fucking life. FFS, Capello is the man who led us to a 4-1 win in Croatia. He deserves his chance. We need a reality check. We last won the World Cup in 1966 and we were up against the current European Champions. Yet some of you morons expected us to go to Seville and try to win. We were lucky we didn't get slaughtered. Get behind the lads and I know we can qualify for the World Cup. The moaners should piss off and support Scotland! Whoever manages these overpaid iv'e got everything, i'm above everything egos we aint going to win anything. NOT ONLY ARE ENGLAND WANK BUT THEY'RE TOTALLY EMBARRASING AND CONSIDERING THE TALENT THAT WE HAVE AT OUR DISPOSAL IT'S QUITE FRANKLY BOTH A DISGRACE AND AN OUTRAGE. FUCK E'M ALL OFF!.

Carlton Cole is in great form, played quite well when he came on, and thoroughly deserved his call up.

See where you are coming from Rip, but playing for your country is different than playing for your club, I agree with Wenger, Ferguson, Ian Wright, Southgate, et al when they say it should be a nationalistic thing, Capello in charge of a England team against Italy in the world cup final would not be right surely? (hypothetically speaking of course) Could you as a Englishman manage a team against England in that situation?

Why wouldn't it be right, so longs as the players on the pitch are English?

There is nothing in the rules that says we have to have a Englishman, agreed Rob , But with a foreigner in charge we are relying on their expertise, that to me is an embarrassment and any win with Capello in charge would not be a 100% English win as the manager picks the team, tactics and so on, he is the most important person in the club and it just isnt England with a foreigner there in my view,

Just have to agree to disagree on this one togger, I really don't see a problem so long as the players on the pitch are English. Ideally of course, we would have an English manager, but the sad truth is there isn't anybody out there who's up to the job.
Foreign management has been part of the game for decades in international football and I really don't see any issue with it, but that's just me personally.

I'm thinking of organising a day out to watch an FC Twente match in May.
It coincides with our last home game of the season against Wigan.
Should be a cracking day of drinking and with any luck we'll get to meet Steve McLaren and tell him what a great job he did for England.
Interested? Leave your details below.
