IMO, Kelly absolutely absymal and looked completely out of it and lost most of the time. Whelan just about OK but completely outshone by Keith Andrews (Ex Stoke loanee) and even more so by Aiden McEddy(however you spell it). I suppose the positive way of looking at it, is that at least Kelly got another 90 minutes in to raise his physical and mental strength. Still a mile away from being a premiership defender based on Saturday and yeasterday's performances.

Kelly has hardly played any games and it showed , give him 10 games for us and I think we will have a decent player, Whelan was as he is for us , steady, worked hard did some good things and did a few sloppy ones, just needs to work on his concentration and keep learning .
Really impressed with Keith Andrews though, looks a much improved player

some of the posts on this thread are total crap
i watched the ireland game, and not with rose-tinted specs as i'm not particularly pro-whelan
he had a good game, his passing was good, and i remember him pressing the ball well, and stealing possession for ireland a few times.
his free kicks were generally good.
irelands problems are that they don't have abalanced team, too many similar players like duff, keane, doyle mcgeady (terrible player in my opinion),they don't have many options when attacking
it was hard for both whelan and andrews in those circumstances, but andrews was giving the ball away all the time, whelan looked more comfortable
as for kelly, he was off the pace but that's understandable

Being Irish I'm not looking through rose tints. To say Whelan played well is ludicrous. The Irish press simply don't get Trapp's fascination with Whelan-me too. Kelly has been a great servant for the lads but was out of sorts last night.

I quite like Whelan, but is a shoe in for the republic when Stephen Ireland decides to put his boots back on?

Just being honest- Whelan was so ordinary was untrue- I can't believe those on here posting saying he played well watched the game at all. Robbie got us out of jail.

Listening to Ronnie Whelan this morning on local radio he didn't have much good to say about young Glen at all, the words no creativity were used quite often and been able to pass the ball down the flanks to Duff. So nothing new there then about Glen, we know there is no creativity from him, he just works aarrdd.

I enjoy watching the Rep. of Ireland actually.
Will take a keen interest in them from now on, particularly with Whelan and Kelly in and around the squad.
Performance wise Kelly was shite and Whelan mediocre last night for mine.

Kelly was seriously poor and I'm very concerned. As I mentioned in the first page, he was yards off the pace. Of course, he's been out of it a little while, needs time to settle in, and we need to grant him a little leeway but christ, last night he looked miles out of his depth.

To be fair Hatchett- Ronnie Whelan has had it in for Glenn Whelan fron day 1. Glenn does remind me a wee bit of Ronnie Whelan who to be fair never impressed for ROI. Glenn has done ok for Ireland and is obviously Trapp's first name on the team sheet, who are we to argue with one of the world's best managers? Fact is they are on course for qualifying and can't argue with that. Great to see us having players possibly playing in SA. Am very proud
