Following a discussion I had earlier, how many people on here have -or would- bet against Stoke with the bookies?
Is it any way disloyal or, should the worst happen, does it merely provide some "insurance" against a bad result?

Never. Ever. My best results so far this season has been £10 e/w on Higgy first goal, against Spurs (40/1) Not had much since then. Got £5 on 1-0 on saturday though. Won a little, but the £500 i won has kept me in profit

Never!
A bloke i often see in the pub is a long time stokie, but bets agains them every week. If we win, he is chuffed, if we lose, he wins money. Bitter sweet I suppose, but I couldn't do it.

Yes, under Brian Little where we criminally short priced at home. Made some nice money, particularly on the Bristol Rovers battering at home. Has the ball from Kav's penalty in that game landed yet?

Should I be ashamed to say that I frequently bet against us?? Don't knock it until you've tried it is what I reckon. It may not be spectacularly loyal but it certainly softens the blow that comes with defeat. I never really put more than £20 on the opposition so if Stoke win I'm chuffed and if we lose then it gives me a silver lining.

It must have been drinks on you after the match with that 12p!

A lot of people did if you read the posts before the last game of last season
A lot of people had the Leicester/Hull double, meaning that if we did lose out on automatic promotion, the blow would be softened by a few hundred quid
Apart from that - no, never

Apart from that - no, never yup, had £20 on that myself. Couple of hundred quid would not have softened the blow though, ended up spending that anyway that night.

Couple of times to 'soften the blow' on the odd occasion I can be bothered
Only because I care so much and get so gutted when we lose certain games

I know a lad who does that. I personally try to avoid Stoke in the bookies, except for the odd quid I'll stick on whilst I'm at the ground every now and again.

I had the Lwicester/Hull double. Stood to win over £600 if it happened. The theory was that the winnings would finance the three playoff games.
That's the only time I've ever bet against us (although it has been tempting at times!) and I was ecstatic to lose!

Golden Rule never shit on your own doorstep when betting. Steer well clear of betting on Stoke.. though I just can't win this season, last season collected just over a grand in profit i always go for accumalator - 2 homes and 2 aways @ 20 quid.
This season I have not won anything at all, still same bet - 2 homes 2 aways @20 quid??? Any suggestions???

I can guarantee they were odds on favourite mate, nailed on that. They were around 2/5 best price, I recall, so would have won two bottles of San Miguel at discount Wetherspoon prices.

There's some logic in it though..If you win, you'll be happy because your team won. If you lose, the money will take the edge off it. I haven't done this though, I dont bet

I must see things in a different way to a lot of the posters on this thread, I always think that if I bet on Stoke to win then I will put the hoodoo's on it and they will lose. So I never bet on stoke as a matter of principle. If I were to bet then I would bet on them to lose in the hope that it would actually make us win. Strange I know, but in my own head its perfectly justified! ;D

Yep I have. When Coates brought Pulis back from Plymouth I was pissed off. I really thought TP was bad for Stoke and that he would just bring us dire 0-0, 1-0, 0-1, or 1-1 results. I was so convinced of this that I took out an account with bet 365 and put £5 on each of these result every week.
Shows how wrong you can be - TP ended up being very good for Stoke. Shows how right you can be as well - made £400 profit over the season.
