BBC Sport Wednesday, 23 January 2008, 17:46 GMT Albion in talks with Czech keeper West Bromwich Albion West Bromwich Albion are on the verge of signing Czech goalkeeper Michal Danek according to the player's agent. The 24-year-old has previously spent time training with the Baggies and the Championship side have been negotiating with Danek's club Viktoria Plzen.
"Last Friday Plzen received a proposal from West Brom," Danek's agent Ondrej Chovanec told BBC Radio WM.
"They answered yesterday. It looks like, in my opinion, they can find a conclusion," he added.
"Plzen are expecting to get the answer to their proposal. In my opinion it will happen.
"We discussed personal terms when we were at Albion ten days ago so we know the condition of his contract, this is not a problem.
"Michal is excited to be part of a big club in the UK, and WBA are a big club on their way to the Premier League."

But pressure creates focus. Focus means less mistakes, ie coming out for crosses.

How come we had a keeper on trial in the reserve game last night if we are not looking for a keeper?

Fornside, No-one more pleased then me if we are as can be seen on other thread. As I have said, although Simmo is good (Hoult isn't) but often a much overlooked position in terms of team strengthening until it's too late. Eye

KE- It is good that we are looking now for keepers. Hoult is out of contract in the summer and I would be shocked if we signed him up for longer. Simmo is going through a poor spell at the moment and a stronger back up might give him a nice kick up the backside

Yeah I know- it is clear that Simmo is going through a tough time.
It is refreshing that Stoke are taking this new step. Signing Fuller up on a longer contract, spending a million pounds on two defenders (one of whom has his whole career ahead of him) and now looking at keepers ahead of our number two's contract expiring in the summer.
Good times at the Brit!

KE - You were shot down for suggesting we sign Kaspar Schmeichel on loan and play him instead of Simmo.
Simmo has had some of his frailties exposed this year with a somewhat weaker defence in front of him, but he remains one of the finest keepers in the division and one of the finest Englsih keepers full stop, and continues to save us at times when all seems lost.

RVD, KS was a suggestion in light of keepers of his undoubted qualities were available but the real criticism came after I dared suggest that Simmo needed challenging to maintain his momentum, which had been slipping. Others in loan market include this guy, perhaps a bit old but worth a loan, news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/derby_county/7206567.stm

That's not how I remember it KE - plenty of people have suggested that Simmo needs proper competition. It was your crackpot Schmeichel idea that got you the stick.

We differ then, but good to be looking anyway we can agree.

Crackpot? how about this older goalie to give Simmo a run for his money. Afterall he will soon be no longer the 1st choice at his club. www.focus.de/sport/fussball/wm2006/nummer-12_aid_20686.html

It was a crackpot idea because:
1). Simmo doesn't need replacing 2.) KS wouldn't come here to sit on the bench would he? 3.) KS is inferior to Simmo anyway (IMO).

Which of the three reasons do you not agree with KE?

Any team is always looking to improve across all positions, and Simmo is not irreplaceable, he needs pressure to ensure he's working at optimum and new blood will create competition for places. Kasper is good, young and capable at this level. But, there are others out there in their early twenties looking for an opening.

Still think dropping him for a keeper who is just as, if not more, dodgy on crosses would have been hugely harsh on Simmo. KS hasn't impressed me at all.

I like Kasper. He is a young confident keeper who obviously posesses a lot of of his father's skills (although still very rough around the edges). Keepers do not generally reach their peak until 29/30 so he does have years to prove his potential. Admittedly he would more than likely not want to come to stoke to warm the bench.. but we can dream lol Mind you i believe Timo Hildebrand might be available soon too

If his surname wasn't Schmeichel his name wouldn't have been mentioned once.

RVD. You do him a great injustice, as his surname perhaps builds up expectation. I've seen him working at close quarters over many years now.
