Pugh in midfield for me. He isn't a defender and looks more comfortable in midfield. That is if Higgy is fit of course Agreed, if higgy is fit, it would be: ..........................Sorensen Wilkinson......Faye......Shawcross.......Higgy Lawrence.....AM Faye......Pugh.......Etherington ...............Camara............Beattie

The talk on another thread is of Pulis wanting to change things and make us more narrow. Given this, I wonder if we might see a 4-5-1 with Beattie alone up-front and Camera and Etherington on the wings to (theoretically) get forward.
Its not what I would do, but I could see Pulis doing it.

4-5-1 away from home has got to be worth a punt!
If it is wider pitches stumping us, then it should be that formation away and a 4-4-2 at home!

We have never played well in a 4-5-1. It works in teams that have a strong ethic of breaking quickly, and getting men forward box-to-box.
What it usually means to Stoke is one fewer outlet to hold up the ball and relieve pressure on the defence.

He linked up superbly with Matty on Saturday, his distribution was FAR better than what we've come to expect from Higgy, and I think Etherington is likely to be more effective with Pugh behind him. His best role might indeed be in the centre of the park, but if I was forced to fill the left back and central midfield positions with any two from Whelan, Pugh and Higgy, then I might be tempted to leave Higgy out. If Higgy isn't fit against Sunderland then you would assume that Pugh will get the nod at left back, it will be very interesting to see if he performs as well again next time around.

I thought Cresswell played well on Saturday, but it was the sort of backs to the wall event in which he is effective. However, he surely will not play Saturday. Both Lawrence and Camara are better options on the right.

I'll go for Sorro Wilko Faye Shawcross Pugh Lawrence Amdy Whelan Ethhers Beattie Fuller/Camara subsSimo Cresswell Kelly/camara oli Kits Griffin tonge/camara Thats the 1st 11 i'd love to see out on Saturday , and given how the last away performance went, is the way I would go. Just cant see Lawrence getting in ahead of a more defensive minded/hard working player *Cough* Cresswell *Cough*. Just think we should be more forward thinking/creative in winnable away games such as this. Lawrence works equally as hard for the team as Cresswell, but adds the extra bit of attacking quality missing from away games this season. If it went tits up for Pulis playing this lineup, fair enough, go back to what you know/trust, but unless he gives it a go, we wont know.

If cresswell starts when we have Beattie Fuller Kitson Camara and Lawrence all available then Cresswell must definitely be going round Mr Pulis' house for some bum fun when Mrs Pulis is out.

I expect 4 - 5 - 1 with Camara and Etherington on the wings supporting Beattie, dont think there is any chance Lawrence will start I wouldn't be suprised to see him go to Brum on loan.

If RC does start on Saturday then I'd be disappointed that TP didn't mean it when he suggested, after the Tottenham game, that we need to look again at what we're doing away from home.
There are just no easy away games in the PL but some offer more opportunity for a profitable return than others. Sunderland is, I believe, one of those games and I hope we approach it in the right way - with belief and solid determination.
Here's hoping.

Won't Camara start on the right? With Beattie and Fuller up front? Maybe even Beattie and Cresser?

Camara is not a right winger or midfielder. He is an out and out striker, so he plays up front with Beattie or Fuller or Kitson, which means we have to change our tactics to accommodate him or drop the others and play him as a lone striker. Hope that clears it all up!
