A bloke at our place who is a "supporter" of Arsenal has now decided to "support" Manchester City.
What an absolute shambles.
PS I work in Newcastle under Lyme, not London or Manchester...........

what a gypo.
my girlfriend's brother and sister 'support' man u, whenever they talk about footy I keep telling them that they're not real supporters, and mention prawn sandwiches a lot. They hate that.
That said I am going to take her bro to a couple of games and see if I can convert him!

the word "supporter" really fooks my head up. i have a man u and a notts forest "supporter in my local, and ffs ive been to their respective grounds more time than they have both teams are no more than a hour away from longton and yet they still dont go !!!! typical example, boxing day man u v stoke, no show didnt even come to the pub as he was worried that it might kick off, load of bollocks. forest against derby, two teams who dont like each other, notts fan cant be bothered. before i get slated about fans not being able to afford etc etc, both these guys are finacially sound, single, with no ties, own transport etc my definition of a supporter has always been -- that you support a club by paying through the turnstiles and going to watch them, this in turn "supports" the club with monies generated i know the exiled stokies, abroad etc may not agree with this, as they cant get to the matches blah blah but i stand by my definition, the notts fan and the man u fan, do my fluffin head in, perhaps it would be better to say i "admire " man u / notts forest as in my eyes they dont "support" them feel better now

Torch, you are correct, I should have said "fan" rather than supporter.
Now a Man United "fan" at work is saying he is NOT a glory hunter a he started watching them on TV and they played well !! It beggars belief............

My sisters boyfriend was always been a plastic Manc, and my sister has been taking him to games. He has slowly been converted into a Stokie, to the point where he now has a season ticket. Good lad.

My "uncle" is a ManUre fan.
He believes dedication to the cause is sitting in your pants watching MUTV.
He also uttered the now immortal "i'll never go Old Trafford while that twat's in charge" in 1990. About Alex Ferguson.

"Uncle"?
Have you disowned him because of his 'support' of The Shit or is he one of those uncles who's most probably had a bit of your nan but they're 'just friends'?

If he has been fucking my nan that is a matter for concern. She's been dead a while. Still, a bootie call is a bootie call i suppose.

I try not to let Glory Hunters bother me, they're believed gain from following a team that wins all the time just hollows out the victory. Many of us have endured years of pain watching Stoke as have many smaller clubs, this is why I find myself cheering on the under-dog simply for they're fans.
The media often blame us for having a small club mentality and being happy with draws against Liverpool at home and away. Well we've had to stand in the rain and watch our team lose to some God awful teams and this 'pain' only makes victories or perceived victories taste sweeter. You find that people that make these comments will be really happy watching their team take the league title having not attended any games, if they're honest they don't care when they lose and therefore don't really care when they win. I CARE and know how good victories actually feel like.

Glory hunters a sad set of tossers with no local pride. The sooner they realise that no one admires them for their mercenary ways the better.
For the Man U game one sad local bloke, bought his glory hunting little offspring to sit right behind me and the eldest. The little shit was irritating to say the least, with his constant praise for that cheating winker. Now I never condone violence in front of the kids, but she was getting seriously pissed off with the little tosser and was ready to tell him where to go. Sometimes a fathers pride happens at the strangest times.

One thing Id offer when people talk about 'glory hunters' is this:
Just before Christmas 2007 i.e. JUST over 12 months ago - OUR average home gate was around 13,000 wasn't it ? - (Smudge, please adjust)
but, do you get my point ?
welcome one and all but, by my reckoning - half our grounds presently full of em !

The Torch - I basically agree with what u say and i hate gloryhunters as much as anyone else on here but your definition of what counts to be classed as a supporter isnt very realistic. ive been a season ticket for many years, have been all over the country watching the lads normally to some pretty tinpot grounds, and now that i live overseas i go through the agony of watchin the team that always have supported and ALWAYS WILL support in a bar with a load of glory hunting tosspots who belittle me for supporting little old stoke who've never won fuck all (enjoy putting them right on that score:-) so to say that im not a stoke supporter cos ive chosen to leave SOT to get a better job hardly stops me being classed as a stoke supporter
