Depends if you want it as an accompaniment to a meal or just to drink, and whether it's to "drink" or "get pissed" on.
I like a good Rioja but it's not to everyone's taste, a good Merlot goes well with red meat or by itself, in which case I'd recommend Stowell's, you can grab a bottle from Bargain Booze for around £6.

How about a Châteauneuf-du-Pape? Taste good apparently (I don't drink wine, just beer). They aren't cheap though

Any reasonably priced rioja would do it for you. Its not a heavy wine and is quite fruity and easy drinking. No real hangover for me either

if you are going back on the red grog, start with something light and build up

Pop into Aldi and get any of their Shiraz reds.
Never had a bad bottle from there and very resonable price.

2005 was the best vintage in years for most French reds, you honestly can taste the difference.

From a personal point of view (and I have been drinking red wine for about 25 years) - Don't buy Stowells, it's overpriced piss! I personally don't enjoy American wines by Gallo, I find them bland and tasteless Most French wines are also overpriced when compared to New World wines I would recommend either Australian or South African reds. Wolf Blass or Jacob's Creek from Australia, or Lindeman's from either South America or South Africa or Australia. Also First Cape or Kumala from South Africa. Bargain Booze have some good offers on the above at between £4 and £5 a bottle. Linky thing.... www.bargainbooze.co.uk/wine-offers.phpEnjoy

It depends what you want from a red wine. If you want to get pissed then the co-op do a bottle of red called XV which is 15 in roman numerals. 15% by volume is very strong and its not a bad wine to drink on its own. About £5.00. To accompany a meal such as a curry or chinese then a French Fitou wine will do nicely, its a dry red which will complement the strong flavours. Personally I like a nice oaked cabernet sauvignon or a spanish rioja, both go well with red meat but are fine on their own. Enjoy your wine and drink sensibly (official disclaimer ).

Celebrating the end of a certain presidents disastrous tenureship ? ( Tenureship ? ) Is it his farewell speech tonight ? bet he hasn't got the balls to match Ike and warn the US population about the MIC (not likely given his connections to it)
