he doesn't exactly seem keen does he? The only thing he's pondering is whether we'll have a chance to stay up and will it be financially viable for him. Not a great way to show loyalty to a team who wants to sign you!! I agree to a point. You can't really blame him. He's obviously thinking about his career. This could quite likely be his last shot at being in the prem and signing a 2 1/2 year deal with us will take him to being 34 years old.... From his point of view there is a possibility that we may go down. Maybe he's just thinking long and hard about whether its the right move or not. I hope he signs though.

Thats what I mean. To be fair to him it's a big decision to make at the back end of his career. Got everything here crossed for him to sign for us! We do have 1 thing going for us that might seal the deal though.....he seems to like playing in red and white stripes Also....his birthday is same day as mine....he is exactly 1 year older than me only just noticed that lol.

www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1805_4784872,00.html Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell wants James Beattie's future settled sooner rather than later with Stoke looking to sign the striker Beattie, who has netted 12 goals, trained with the Blades squad on Monday but will remain at home when they travel to London to face Leyton Orient for an FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday "From everyone's point of view this episode would ideally be resolved as soon as possible," Blackwell told the clyub's website. "Ever since I came here there has been speculation about James Beattie and if he stays I am sure it will happen again because he is the top man, a goalscorer. "Things have been more than a little unsettling for him over the past few days and his head is a bit mixed up at the moment." United have plans in place should Beattie depart for the Britannia Stadium. Blackwell said: "We have one or two irons in the fire and we will move when the time is right. The saying is 'act in haste and repent at leisure' and we are mindful of that. "Eight or nine years ago Charlton were the accepted model for aspiring teams, but they made mistakes and my, how they are paying the price now. "(Chairman) Kevin McCabe wants success at Sheffield United but not at the cost of risking everything."

"irons in the fire". do managers have some sort of a phrase book or something? I believe ManagerSpeak accounts for about a third of the UEFA Pro Licence syllabus.

You can't blame him, yes you can! He knows he's comfortable at Utd, appreciated by the fans, if he signs for us he will be expected to perform and raise his game. Which poses the question "does he have the bollox for a dog fight," I'm not so sure? You see it doesn't matter if we get relegated because he will still be on roughly the same wage and still be at a champioship outfit, so I'll stick with the former question.

If he wants to come here and the fee and his wages are in keeping with our budget, fine, he would be an asset. But if he's trying to get a rise or isn't really comitted to SCFC then we should look elsewhere. Putting a time limit on our involvement in this deal is I believe the right thing to do, we don't need anyone who thinks they're doing us a favour or are better than us. We need players fully in tune with what we are doing here. If Beattie is worried about coming here and then getting relegated he obviously doesn't think much of his own ability. Yes he needs time to consider his options but we must not let any player become a distraction to our season.
