That would tie in with what Shawcross let slip the other night, wouldn't it? It would indeed chap. Shawcross said this his agent was tying up the deal. I wonder who Calves' agent is?

Free transfer to £2.5M in 10 games ?
Can't see Pulis getting drawn into that figure with Peter's money ?

Free transfer to £2.5M in 10 games ? Can't see Pulis getting drawn into that figure with Peter's money ? He was a Bosman though. There were descriptions of him being one of the best RBs in France last season, at Le Mans, and he was linked with Bosmans to Lazio, Seville, Bolton, Fulham, Monaco, Paris St Germain, Cologne and all sorts. Apparently he was bought by Nancy to replace some bloke called Mikael Chretien, who looked sure to depart for big money. But he ended up staying, and now they're left with 2 very good right-backs. Interesting that this Chretien bloke is now being linked with a move. So it'll be interesting to see which one Nancy cash in on? www.goal.com/en/news/1722/french-ligue-1/2009/01/12/1057786/ligue-1-transfer-round-up-12-january-2009While PSG are looking to recruit from the Iberian peninsula, Nancy defender Michael Chretien could be on the verge of making the opposite switch as Primera División club Sevilla are studying the versatile Moroccan defender according to Goal.com’s French site. Jacques Rousselot, president of the Lorraine club, is not keen on letting his right-back leave.
As well as seeking Aruna Dindane from Racing Club Lens, Stoke City may remain in France in order to add a right-back to their squad. Jean Calvé has made very public his desire to move away from AS Nancy and it appears that the Potters have taken a very real interest in his talents. The flying full-back only arrived at the Stade Marcel-Pichot in the summer but has found first team chances limited due to Michael Chretien’s presence. Clearly both of these players will not depart Nancy

Davies has only played for Stoke this Season. He was out injured when the season kicked off.

That says that he is a left back? but before it said "fast and especially a very good right foot, it distils centers with small onions!" Which is it? Or can he distil the onions from the left aswell? Mulit talented. I wish I could distil onions I can't remember the last time that Stoke bought someone who could distill onions from either flank. Go get him Tone!!!!

No room for "nancy boys" in our lineup.. Think of our rugged,,physical reputation!!
Makes more sense if at all to be some kind of loan deal with a possibly buy later clause.. Certainly not 2 million!! Stupid sun!! At 500k could be one of those 'one for the future' deals...
More importantly I don't think Tone particularly likes overlapping get up there full backs,, its taken long enough to get an 'ethrington in'...such an act might give him some kind of stroke.. !! Unless he is going 'senile' and losing his grip or memory.
i If a right back comes in will be a beast of a man and no not parkin!!

HERE is his profile on transfermarkt.de. Unfortunately no agent listed, although they've got him down at €2.2m, but I don't know how accurate they are.

Spoke to a mate of mine who is half french, and his mum still lives there. He knows him, says he is one of those players who the public really rate and can't understand why he doesn't play or move to a different club.
Apparently 'arry looked at him for Pompy too!

www.football365.fr/france/infos-clubs/nancy/article_288304_-Envie-d-etranger-.shtmlJean Calvé - Wanted Abroad
Contacted last summer by many foreign clubs, Jean Calvé, who interests Blackburn and Stoke City, could be tempted by an adventure in England. Lorient would be also ready to recover the side Nancy one. Does Jean Calvé, the possibility that Michael Chrétien joins the FC Seville this winter give causes your desire of it to leave Nancy?
Not, it does not. I leave, it is clear. Whether Chrétien remains or not does not change anything with this business. Since I know that I have my good of exit, I said that I wanted to leave and I will not reconsider my decision. What justifies more your desire for leaving Nancy after six months spent to the club? The fact that I would not be used by the trainer. Me, if I had chosen Nancy were primarily to have time of play. Can one speak about a white mid-season for you? Not, because I nevertheless played thirteen matches, which is nothing. But I want more. “See which will propose the best challenge to me” Which is your main objective today?Initially, I will follow all the proposals which can arrive and I will choose the one which is best for me. It is also necessary to see compared to what the club wishes. Do you confirm the contacts with Stoke City, Blackburn and Lorient?Yes, there are contacts. After, for the moment, these clubs did not enter directly in relation to me but only with my club. Thus it is necessary already that they are of agreement with the club before agreeing with me. Do you have a preference for one of these clubs? Not, it is divided. It will be necessary to see which will propose the best challenge to me. You tempted by an adventure abroad, and in particular in England?Yes, it is sure. Already last June, I would have agreed to go abroad to taste with a new experiment (note: Calvé interested at the time Santander, Lazio Rome, Bolton and Dynamo Kiev), but one should not go there under any conditions either. “It will be necessary that I would be immediately competitive” Do you fear by there knowing bad surprise while choosing of going in a club like Blackburn or Stoke City? Not, not, but I want just to say by there that it is necessary well to know the interests of these clubs and what they really await from me. I am not wary of these clubs but rather of what they can want exactly of me. Are you in a hurry to pack your bags? Not, not more than that, because still time ago. And it is very known well that it is always at the end of Mercato that is really agitated. For the moment, they are only contacts, discussions… The more one arrives towards the 31 and the more concrete that becomes. Don't you go to move back today with the drive? Not, on the contrary. I go thoroughly there because I must be well physically and in the play. Because if I arrive in a club, it will be necessary that I would be competitive immediately. It is not as when you sign in June: a pre-season ago which enables you to adapt. It is necessary to be immediately competitive, it is for that I am given thoroughly with the drive

Thanks for that FM, funny as I was reading it, I could here a French accent in my head! Looks like he'd only be interested in coming if he was guaranteed first team football. With Etherington on the left, he certainly would give us a much needed injection of pace onto the right flank as well. It appears he knows how to cross a ball, and both Lenny and especially Rory could easily cover for him when he overlaps.

boothenboi - you could argue we have players for every position. But we want to improve the team and that means getting in "better players than what we have" as Pulis never tires of saying. When a club steps up from the Championship to the Premiership it is inevitable that for about 2 years there will be players arriving and leaving in large numbers with first choice players becoming fringe players and fringe players leaving the club. And often the players replaced will be crowd favourites - that is the way of things.

I'm probably missing someone really obvious out, but have we ever had a Frenchman play for us?

To be fair, though, Pericard was born in Cameroon. Didn't he become a French national later?

Don't think we've had any French born players, but Sebastian Rüster was on trial and came on v Man United in a friendly at the brit.
We also had a French trialist back in 1980 Serge in first name is all I remember.
