Reading another thread below with some great pics of the old lady, I started to think of some of the great games and atmospheres experienced at our old home.
I started to go to Stoke on my own at 14, gradually building up a gang of us travelling from Biddulph on the bus to Hanley, then walk down to the ground through the park!
I had a season ticket at 5, but very vague memories before I started to go alone!
So my experience is limited really of games to mention, only really 87 - 97.
Stoke 4 - 4 Luton (1982-3?) - old Div 1 Vague memories yes, but tis one will live in the memory forever. Keeper sent off, last minute penalty miss, 8 goals, and it was the main game on TV that night (before every second of games was even conceived!). Brilliant.
Stoke 1 - 0 West Brom (1992?) - old Div 3 Stoke 4 - 3 West Brom (1993?) - old Div 3
You have to love West Brom :-)
Stoke 2 - 1 Man Utd - Carling Cup (1993-4?) Steino, Steino!
Stoke 1 - 0 Plymouth (1993-4?) Promotion! My first! Good old Gleghorn! Ensured a fab party at Bolton!
More to come as alcohol brings out more happy memories!

Stoke 5-2 west ham 1982. Went with my dad as usual. Great game. Also the 4-4 with luton and the game when we beat man city and the chant from the boothen was 'Under alan ball your'e gonna win fuck all' to the tune of wonderwall

Boxing Day - Stoke 3 - 1 Man City (old Div 2 - about 1988?)
The Banana vs Pink Panther war - They had the whole of the Butler Street terrace?
Was an immense following, think they even took the lead before Stoke powered back to win.
Stoke 0 - 0 Liverpool (FA Cup - 1988/9?)
Oh Graham Shaw, your career ruined by one poor miss. Hooper to beat running through on goal, 88 minutes on the clock against the holders and league champions, fluffed his lines and tried to flick it round him rather than the obvious of putting it through his open legs.
Memorable as it was the first time the Boothen was truly packed - I used to stand right at the front on the fence in those days - it was fairly scary. Was this the same Liverpool season as Hiillsborough? A disaster waiting to happen.

Remember the Wolves game
Andy Gray sent off, Clive 'The Book' Thomas reffing his last game
And Paul Maguire, often pilloried and mocked by his own supporters, scoring 4 goals in the game (inc 2 pennos!) before being sent back to the Vale!
(Edit as just checked his nickname on Wiki!)

Stoke 4 barnsley 3
2 own goals A goal from carruthers that he nearly missed as he rounded the goalie he stood on the ball and stumbled but had enough time to stick it in still. Pretty sure 1 of the own goals was a zola like flick off the inside of the defenders back heel into the far side of the goal

that Barnsley game was 5.4 both the own goals were at the (real) Boothen End & were 100% as a result of Barnsley players panicking/shitting themselves because of the crowds venom
Macari & Steino gone in the same week, the linesman had given some very very tight offsides against us & the whole crowd took out their frustrations on him & then Barnsley
if you could somehow replicate that atmos we would win 95% of home matches.

Stoke 4 Luton 4 Stoke 6 Chelsea 2 Stoke 0 WBA 3 no I'm not a baggies fan but this was such a one sided game that was brilliant to watch apart from the final result with WBA scoring from their 3 chances in the game.

Stoke 3 Leeds 2 is my greatest ever Stoke game, obviously excluding cup finals and promotion clinchers cos they're there for other reasons.
Stoke 5 Arsenal 0 was my first ever game
Other games that have been mentioned which I loved were the Luton 4-4 game and the Man City bananas game as well as the boxing day (not this one) game against the shit!

Beating Liverpool 2-0 in 1984, I got so drunk after the game I remember nothing officer, too beat Liverpool then was just pure mental.
Beating Wolves 4-0 to stay up also in 1984 and that last minute penalty was the one that sent Birmingham down oh what joy
So many to mention but also for the anticipation of expecting a win when we lost 2-3 to Liverpool in the league cup in 1991, (after drawing 2-2 at Anfield), Bertie scoring in the 86th minute I really thought we were gonna do it. And we were a shit Div 3 team playing and holding our own against the then biggest and best club in England.

I only remember a few games from the vic. Portsmouth when McMahon scored a great goal ???
Arsenal in the cup.
Barnsley when Sheron scored and it was 1-0.
Sheff Utd when Sheron was on that record breaking scoring run.

Too many great games to choose from but i'd go for 4-3 West Brom 2-1 Man United and 2-0 against Bournemouth in november '92. I was mascot that day and running out onto the pitch was fantastic. Still got the pictures too

Stoke 2-1 The Shit..6th round FA Cup replay 1971..49,000
Stoke 3-2 Leeds..about 36,000 and we destroyed Leeds 'record'..
Stoke 2-0 Liverpool 1974/75 and about 45,000 down Easter game
Stoke 3-0 Chelsea 1975
Plus being on the Boothen 1974/75 when we beat Leicester and waiting with everyone else about 10 minutes after the game had finished to hear the immortal words blasting out from the tannoy...'We Are Top of The League'.....after which followed one of the best mentals ever.........

Stoke 9 Ipswich 1,every forward scored in that game. 9 forwards, those were the days Someone tell Tone! My first and last games at the Vic were both 3-3 draws, Ipswich and ManU if I remember rightly, but the one I enjoyed most was the 3-2 v Leeds.

I still get goosebumps at the sight of Smithy scoring that diving header against Leeds. and the 4-4 draw against Luton was just unbelievable, as was the sight of all those bananas going along Campbell Road from the Plough to the ground.

Richie was my all time hero and Osgood was meant as a replacement .SWEET!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I just salivate at the thought of 45,000 plus down the vic. I started in 1988 when obviously the old stoke end had gone but heaving boothen ends get my juices pumping, West Brom in out promotion season, Gelggy fires us into the first, Leicester and Jordans first game, Wolves for some reason when it rained and the back of the boothen was heaving ! West Brom our last game

Loads of great memories, but my top 5 would have to be as follows...
Stoke 5 Sheff Utd 2 (86/87) first ever game...carl saunders scored a hat-trick and I was immediately converted from being an eight year old Everton glory hunter, thank God.
Stoke 3 Man City 1 (88/89) The sight of those inflatable bananas all along the boothen paddock, and a second half comeback after being 0-1 down. Even Dave Bamber scored!
Stoke 4 West Brom 3 (92/93) Just an amazing game...and some comedy goalkeeping from Tony Parks.
Stoke 1 Plymouth 0 (92/93) The glorious promotion/title-winning night...the first time I'd ever been on the pitch as well. Stoke was the most important thing in my life back then (I was only 15!) and it was a great time to be a Stokie.
Stoke 2 Man Utd 1 (93/94) "This man's magic, he scores goals that others can only dream about..."
