not an actual statement as such yet from the club, i suppose this is the closest yet www.stokecityfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10310~1485321,00.html Said in today's Sentinel article about it A spokesman for Stoke City said: “We have been in constant dialogue with both parties to try to increase our allocation, but despite our best efforts we have been unsuccessful.” The club declined to comment further

I like how the language being used now is “we were hopeful of securing the 7,000 allocation however we have been refused the remaining tickets” etc etc.
Where was the word “hopeful” in the initial press release? Where was the mention that it was in doubt? Where was the mention that the initial allocation was only 4,700 with the remainder subject to approval?

exactly i was saying last night to a mate i just so wished they had said in the original article
We will initially have an allocation of 4,700 and we will be working hard to secure the full allocation of 7,000 we will be keeping you informed of whether we receive the extra tickets as soon as we know anything
how hard would that of been, that way nobody could of moaned when they released yesterdays sold-out story!

My thoughts exactly Mark.
If I’d have known the truth from the start I wouldn’t have allowed as much time to get tickets. As it stood the club led me to believe there were 7,000 tickets available and there was no language in the initial press release to make me think that was in doubt, as a result I planned on extra time to get tickets.

also, i havent got anything against anyone who has been fortunate enough to have a ticket BUT i bet there are now quite a few who have got tickets who either havent been at all this season or maybe 1 or 2 and also i bet there are quite a few who have missed out who have maybe been all or most away games so far.
So if the club knew we may end up with only the 4,700 i think they should of implemented a better priority system from the start i.e 6 matches then 4 matches then 2 then general sale to all season ticket holders for example?

Another good point Mark, although as I’ve only been 3 away games this season they should have started at 3 away games, then 2, then 1 and then general sale Incidentally, we have played 8 away games this season – our record? Lost 5, drawn 3. I have been to Liverpool, Wigan and Newcastle away games this season……you do the math

They didnt www.stokecityfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10310~1466639,00.html it was just 2 games then general sale Tickets for the game go on sale to Season Ticket Holders who have been to at least two of the seven away games this season on Wednesday 3rd December from 9am with Adult tickets priced at £24.45p, Over 65's £14.65 and Juniors at £6.86. Tickets will then go on general sale to Season Ticket Holders on Monday 8th December, with any remaining tickets being sold to non Season Ticket holders from Monday, 15th December.

not 100% if i should be posting this on here but i dont suppose it matters too much
Anyway just been speaking to John Alcock about something else and asked about Blackburn
He says Scholes, himself and the club are fuming, he basically said all yesterday Scholes was phoning and e-mailing Lancs police, Staffs police and also Greater mancs police and from what he was saying it was GMP that got in contact with Lans police and advised them to give us as few as possible, by this time though they had already sent the 4,700 GMP advised we should have fewer than this. He said it is really annoying that GMP are giving the club a bad name. John also said like we have it is very unfair that other clubs have had the 7,000 and we aren't
im going to put this on a few different Blackburn threads to make sure it gets seen rather than starting yet another 1!

I had to get this off my chest, just emailed it a minute ago:
Friday 12th December 2008
Tony Scholes Stoke City Football Club Britannia Stadium Stanley Matthews Way Stoke-on-Trent ST4 7EG
Dear Tony
I would be grateful if you would please provide me with some further clarification with regard to the ticket fiasco surrounding the Stoke City game to be played against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday 20th December 2008.
Stoke City FC have actively encouraged (indeed considering the offer of free transport to and from Ewood Park, the word enticed is probably more accurate) Stoke supporters to come out in numbers for this match.
From the outset you assured potential subscribers that there would be 7,000 tickets available, indeed as recently as this (10th Dec) Wednesday, the official web-site was making it clear to supporters that if they wanted to travel on one of the coaches provided, then they had to purchase their ticket before next (17th Dec) Wednesday, clearing creating the impression that there very much would be tickets available next week.
To suddenly announce, late yesterday (Thurs 11th Dec) afternoon, without warning, that the game was completely sold out and that the ticket allocation had been drastically reduced, has left many, many, supporters (some who have attended every away game this season) both helpless and extremely angry.
Stoke City FC have (with the best of intentions) set out and indeed created a huge demand for tickets for this game.
However due to the nature and timing of this announcement, we now have a situation where there is a massive number of fans (many being season ticket holders, who were waiting to make their purchase, once tickets went on general sale to enable them to sit with friends who were not season ticket holders) who are ticket less but sill have every intention of attending.
It really is a recipe for disaster, and may I suggest that the announcement on the official site is simply inadequate considering the number of supporters who have been effected and indeed the potential that now exists for public disorder at Ewood Park in eight days time.
In April of 2008, there was widespread trouble in and around Blackburn when Manchester United Football Club visited Ewood Park. However in October of this year MUFC were given their full allocation of 7,000 tickets for visiting supporters.
There are numerous examples of other Premiership League clubs with far higher recent arrest records than SCFC who have been given full away allocations this season.
Ten days after the game with SCFC, Blackburn Rovers host Manchester City Football Club, what allocation has been made available for the visiting club on this date?
Stoke City Football Club are (at least in part) responsible for having created the ludicrous situation where there is now so much demand for the game, that there is the genuine possibility, that hundreds (possibly more) of decent law abiding Stoke City supporters will be entering the home sections of the ground, whilst we have an upper tier in the away end of Ewood Park left completely empty.
I implore you to reveal the specific reasons that you have been given for the reduction of the Stoke City allocation, to be specific about who you have had your dialogue with and to publicly announce the club's position in response to the decision that has been taken.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely
Paul Spencer

Telling him (he probably has) that this will and has just moved Stoke fans into the home end and a likelihood of not being under control by the police. Open up the top tier, let the stoke fans who have bought tickets for the home end exchange them for the away end. Lets call a conference with the hierarchy of the GMP and invite supporters along to it.

I've had this response from Lancashire Police. Answering my letter of complaint.
In response to your recent email enquiry regarding the football fixture on 20th December 2008, please note the following message, which has been posted on our website and in the media.
“After close consultation with Blackburn Rovers Football Club, a joint decision was made as to the ticket allocation for Stoke City fans. This decision has been based on crowd safety and police intelligence. It is acknowledged by Stoke City that this allocation is greater than required under Premier League Rules”.
“The safety of the fans is paramount during any policing operation and we work very closely with the Football Club to ensure that this remains so.”
Thank You

My probelm is : When we play these teams at home, why does n't OUR club impose strict sanctions on their away following ???? as a means of retribution.

sorry i'm a little confused. from everything i have read it sounds like the police are the bastards here, not stoke city.
i was under the impression that the two clubs had agreed the 7000 allocation, and lancashire police have intervened, after receiving advice from GMP. at this point 4700 tickets had been sold, and the club was told to halt tickets sales immediately.
thats what i was aware of, so why are we writing letters to Tony Scholes?
i'm not criticising, i'm just curious thats all. i think i may have missed something!

beacuse it would be wrong to punish their fans as a result of wank policing.

If they had agreed on 7,000 then I assume 7,000 tickets would have been made available, I think however Stoke may have been cautious and asked for an initial amount. Even so it has left many many fans short changed to be fair. I think the club have been shafted but that said they should have responded earlier especially as they had sold 4,000 as of Wednesday a full week and a half befor the match itself?

Hey eddy
Because hell will freeze over before anybody gets a proper answer out of the police mate.
Maybe, just maybe, as we are customers of Tony Scholes he might make a response.
Probably not like, but I thought he was probably the one most likely to feel obliged to acknowledge that somet isn't right with the attitude we're currently getting from some quarters.

It's not Scholes fault that the police have stepped in.Stoke would have sold all 7000. So stop blaming the club it's Lancashire old bill and GMP pulling the strings.

IMO this should certainly be made to be a big enough issue that the police HAVE to answer. this whole thing is a complete farce
