The reason I mention it is that a number interested Stokies participate in sensible football discussion on their message boards and especially on OVF some of the doom merchants are openly discussing the club going into administration in the near future. One poster claims to have met with Bill Brat who was very worried. Doesn't a city like Stoke needs at least two football teams to keep up the local rivalry and banter, but from the comments I've read, time may not be on the side of the Burslem team. To be honest, I'm not sure what to make of it all. www.onevalefan.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=37002I shouldn't worry about it too much, it must be how Potteries people are, or at least some of them. We are doing a lot better than expected and have progressed enormously over the last few years but still there are people who can't bring themselves to say anything positive!

Knowingeye, I think you should reverse the question and ask how many clubs AREN'T in dire straights. With the economy in such trouble it's not only going to effect clubs attendances but also their corporate and sponsorship revenue. It looks like Stoke have got on the gravy train just in time.

They fooked up big style falling for the Sinnott crap. That bloke was a cpmplete joke. I have give em some stick over the years but I really wouldn't like to see them go completley out of business........I would like to see them suffer for a few more years and then I may go and watch them against Newcastle Town in the league

I'd say they were nackered the day rudge left, when they sold guppy, mccarthy and mills. Having Dean Glover as a manager is just the last nail in the coffin

Ten years ago, I'd of been rolling around pissing myself. Now though it's like laughing at some poor, self destroying, crippled, bitter, twisted, homeless, friendless, laughing stock. What was it that Glen Hoddle said about Karma?

used to have a soft spot for them but that all changed in the 90's deluded pricks that they have become. i am still puzzled by the need to develop a 20,000+ stadium when they have never averaged over 10,000 and why the fuck has the council given them taxpayers money? they will saurely lose this when they go tits up quick look at the facts they sold6,000 season tickets at less than half price so that equates to 3,000 no money coming in from the turnstiles out of all cups so how are they going to pay the bills? I don't think the did sell that many as a game they played midweek not so long back had under 5,000 fans. I think they may have given some away just to make things look rosier. i work with a fail fan who knows loads who brought season tickets with no intention of going the games. bet they are glad they haven,t bothered going by mar mates match reports ;D

Looking at the latest OVF board it seems that many posters, from Delilahs and the Oatcake board as well as Vale fans, have made offers of assistance, which appear to have been refused by senior management. Some fans have said they've offered financial support, but there now appears to be a stand of between certain members of the Vale board and a section of fans. I remember the fans v the board at Stoke many years ago and not too long ago the financial black hole under the previous owners here, when all help was gratefully accepted. What is going on in Burslem? Example thread, on what appears to be a developing story, www.onevalefan.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=37002

Mermaidsal, God (as a Stokie) does indeed move in mysterious ways. Mind you Mr Machin makes some of those loonies in the program 'Around the world in 80 religions' look positively sane. Knowingeye, You of all people should know the the REAL true fans carry a piece of plastic in their wallet that confirms it GD

I could help them by: Going to Vale games when Stoke are not playing. Volunteering to help with any refurb work. Making a significant donation to help the cause. Helping support them with promotional events
However, its the Vile, so they can fuck right off and die. ;D
I would consider helping any other club, but not the Burslum inbreds. (OK except the shit, the blue shit and Crewe)

You can't blame them for being sceptical of the cablecutters offer though can you? Have you seen the list of STAR customers on his Aerial website? It's a fucking pisser!
I must warn everyone that if you are thinking of having him do some work for you , if you know me don't mention it or the business man of the year will refuse to do it!

Shame really, like many older Stokies I went to a few Vale games when I was younger when Stoke were away, used to walk there and back from talke Pits, (I bet most of the youth these days would die at the thought of walking ) just to watch a agme of footy Every dog has it's day and Vale, and Crewe have had theirs and they will now scarbble around the lower leagues like they always did. In this modern day game, a city the size of Stoke with it's low average salary acn only accomodate one real football team if that city wants to challenge in a serious way IMO

It's sad to see the demise of the Vale. They do appear to be in financial dire straits. Clearly there's some problem with internal politics and now this is being argued on OVF.
As for the abuse some Stoke fans are getting on there just for offering their time for free, it shows how petty and spiteful some of their fans are. Some do seem more concerned with Stoke than their own very real problems.

I wonder how many other clubs are in dire straits, in these especially though times? There was an interesting programme on Radio 4 a couple of months ago that looked at this issue - news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7721251.stm Vale were one of the featured clubs. One of the problems in the current economic climate is that there's less money coming into football clubs at the lower levels through advertising, corporate hospitality etc. as companies go to the wall, or cut their costs to try to avoid going to the wall.

as has been said already, I think any feelings of support or concern for vale have been tempered by their attitude toward us in recent years. We are all for a bit of banter, that comes with the terriortry, but some of the hate filled shit they spout in our direction makes some of the people on here look the model of reason
