Given the flack Martin Taylor took last year over his challenge on Eduardo I'd be mighty pissed off if I were him. He was vilified for a challenge which had nowhere near the intent of Guthrie's.

Can't believe Guthrie got away with that but I imagine the FA have decided to shy away from adding to the Newcastle panto.

Sorry Stafford but I'm with the rest here, I fail to see how you can justify Guthrie not receiving further punishment!!! A bad tackle is something like Amdy Faye's two-footed challenge up at Middlesbourgh, and I've yet to hear any Stokie stick up for him for it, but the tackle (if you can call it that) that Guthrie did on Fagan was just ludicrous, and it wasn't just the one tackle, he had TWO attempts at him...............sheesh!!! As for the Griff & Gerry thing, yes I agree with you there, there WOULD no-doubt be many a Stokie moaning if either were to have further punishments, BUT, there'd also be a good few who would think that they deserved it if they were to do a challenge like that, not forgetting all the other supporters of other teams up and down the country who'd also be saying they should receive further punishment, and no-doubt we're not alone in thinking that way about Guthrie either!!!

I can see all the points on here I honestly can but I just think all this hang him high attitude is a bit much. Its not as if the bloke has a history of it and I still cant see that he intended to cause Fagen a serious injury. It was a challenge made in the heat of battle if you like. With regard to the Faye tackle. If he had gone through and broke the blokes leg (which he could have done) how many on here would be defending him now. A fair few I feel.

What would happen to me if i all of a sudden ran up to another man in the street then kicked him as hard as i could and then break his leg?.
Guthrie needs a hard spell of community service for around 12 months and to serve it during matches when his team are playing.

If Griff or Gerry had made that sort of tackle how many would be going mad to get him banned. My guess is NONE. Lets get it right. He made a very bad challenge but does anyone really think he meant to break the blokes leg? I don't. Right. Thats Barton,Terry and Guthrie out the way. Who's back shall we all jump on next? my guess is if gerry or griff did that tackle i would feel ashamed!! it was absolutly disgusting, if he didnt mean break his leg just exactly what did he mean to do?? its not about jumping on peoples backs its about a tackle which is disgraceful! that bad in fact how can you call it a tackle!! my guess is fagan will be out for 3-4 months, thats how long that dirty bastard wants banning for!

The broken leg isn't the point Stafford. It's the intent to injure. Faye's tackle was bad but it was in the vague direction of the ball. Guthrie's was premeditated and aimed at damaging the man, and saying it was "in the heat of battle" doesn't excuse it. His sole intention was to hurt Fagan. That needs need to be clamped down on.

He ought to appeal against it and have the FA say "extra game ban for such a frivilous appeal" Just the same as an inocuous clash with "England Hero" Theo a few years back at Southampton..... NOT

guthrie didnt tackle he fully intended to assault fagan he never went near the ball. imo the fa have sent out a message this week cynical professional fouls (J Terry ) are acceptable, and gbh on the pitch is an acceptable part of the game. When called upon you can rely on the FA to get it wrong

He lost it, Stafford, and I for one would never condone such an action-it wasn't a tackle- by a Stoke player. He went back with a premeditated lunge, and his intention was to hurt the player, and I don't think he cared how much damage he could have caused. The FA is pathetic!

What happened to Roy Keane when he did that wild tackle on that Man City chap? :S
Can't believe there only giving him a 3match ban. Surely should of been extended!
