Yep - I suppose he could surprise us and play him at CB.
Doesn't look likely though. monkeycat's source described him, probably tellingly, as a full-back when he told him about the signing?
And we have got Faye, Shawcross and Cort at CB, whereas we have nobody remotely competent at full-back, so surely that's where Pulis' gaze was looking as regards new blood.
He likes to shoehorn competent, physical big 'uns into the wide areas who'll add aerial power in both boxes wherever he can, as opposed to playing more rounded full-backs/wingers who don't offer as much in the air.

Stoke City: Davies has medical at Brit
15:07 - 18-August-2008

STOKE City were giving Southampton defender Andrew Davies a medical this afternoon ahead of his proposed seven-figure move from the south coast.
But boss Tony Pulis revealed he would need up to a fortnight to recapture his fitness before being considered for first-team action.
That means the 23-year-old will be making his City debut at old club Middlesbrough on Saturday week – at the earliest.
"We've agreed terms, but he's got his medical today," said Pulis this afternoon. "He's had one or two injury problems over the last year or two and so we need to check everything is OK.
"He probably needs a couple of weeks to get fit after missing quite a bit of pre-season."
The one-capped England under-21 international had been sidelined after knee surgery, while a fractured cheekbone also confined him to the stands at the end of last season.
Davies watched Stoke's opening-day demise at Bolton after City and the Saints had agreed a fee believed to be just over the million pound mark.
Stoke are not commenting on reports from the south coast that City midfielder Anthony Pulis could form part of the deal by moving in the opposite direction.

Davies is not the answer imho, if he is any good why haven't someone else snapped him up before. Still he will be a good signing for AP as he rebuilds for the Championship.

He can't be any good because no-one else has bought him? What kind of logic is that?! eg. Wayne Rooney's crap because no one else has been in for him

Maybe it makes some of us look at bit stupid when we have critisised young Pulis and said he would never make the grade, if a championship club want him.
Frankly I hope the lad does well and makes a career for himself away from a club where he has never been accepted, just because he is the son of a once and maybe still, unpopular manager.
I say credit to TP as he has always known this was a stick to beat him with and will be one less issue to throw at him.
I work with an ex stoke player who says Jnr has the ability to be a good midfield player and I will take his view over many.
This also explains why Jnr started against Southampton in that friendly.

Good sensible response, one of the reasons I couldn't warm to TP was his sons position. At least little Ant is near home and can live with mum

couldnt this have been done 3 weeks ago? Sounds like what we need so well done though. so long as all our signings are in place in 13 days time, preferably 4, it'll be fine.

What a signing! Signing a player who is not fit at the moment and has a track record which is injury prone. Real class signing eh?

You would have thought he would have learnt his lesson with Fuller wouldn't you!! If you have had injuries must be a crap signing, and it not like we need defenders. Give me strength
