....at the Brit, according to Radio Stoke. 100 x 64, the minimum allowed by Premier League regulations and the smallest in the Premier. Looks like we're going to aim to keep things very congested. soccerlens.com/premier-league-pitch-sizes/3683/If these measurements are accurate, looks like it'll be the smallest in the league by a distance.

That's a massive difference between us and anyone else.

Does that mean away from home, after around sixty minutes we are going to be nackered due to large pitches and get hammered?

You can probably see the thinking.
I suppose you could argue we need to do anything we can to favour our battling, hard-working, set-piece-centred game.
But, at the same time, trying to squeeze the play to that degree, and cutting out all semblance of width maybe seems a bit anti-football, doesn't it?
Especially if the discrepancy between us and the rest of the league really is as vast as those stats suggest?
Ours will be a postage stamp compared to some.

No doubt this will be mentioned by commentators at every game, which will add to our popularity.

has it ever been widened since the chelsea cup game, when the gaffer wanted to try and get an advantage by making the pitch narrower?

It will be a bit of a shock when we play away from home It won't result in pretty play but may well give us an advantage against the more expansive teams- Arsenal, Man Utd, Tottenham and, of course, West Brom

Couldn't agree more, starkiller. Is it really necessary? Pulis must think it'll be a point-gainer. And I suppose he thinks it's his job solely to get us points and not worry about friends. It does nothing to move us away from the all-too-easy Wimbledon jibes though , and doubtless the London-centric goons in the media and Lineker and Hansen will feast upon it. The difference between our 6400 square yards and Man City's near 9000 square yards is jaw-dropping if the stats are accurate. It'll be like trying to play pool on a snooker table at some away games

I'd like to hear Tone's thoughts on this before I make a judgment on the message this sends out about us.
My initial thoughts were that it's an anti-footballing measure. However, on reflection I've changed my mind. When I used to play, part of training was to play two-touch football in a relatively small area. This improved touch, passing and movement off the ball. I would have thought long ball teams would want as much room as possible for their strikers to chase the ball into. I would have thought that any balls over the top on this size pitch will be straight into the keepers hands. I wouldn't have thought that there'd be alot of width to our play with this pitch size though! I think I'll wait to see what type of players he brings in to play on it!!

We are, apparently, going to reduce the size of the goals, 3 feet by 2 feet, in the half of the pitch we're defending

Flippin eck
seems a very brave or very daft decision
what's the thinking behind it I wonder?
route 1... Rory's throws.. Fulop's kicks...
one things for certain, win or lose, the "pundits" on MOTD and Sky will have a field day with this (excuse the pun).

Can any of you football coaches and wannabe managers out there explain the thinking about this decision? you must be a women!!! A small pitch means that the game will be congested and tight. We will be able to get the ball into the box very quickly. Teams will not be able to play a passing game as there will not be enough space. Wingers will not be effective as they will have no space to exploit. Quick strickers will not be as effective as they will nopt have as much space to run into. All of this will make playing at hom an advantage as we will be used to playing on this pitch, and other teams won't

Come on....they bloody will find space we're in the premier league and it's not as though the pitch is going to be THAT small because the regulations are there to stop it.

This could create a problem if Dicko wants to put Ronnie Ronaldo into the stands... I don't the greasy haired one would carry that far... even with Dicko's foot up his arse

Do they make the technical areas as big as the penalty area to compensate? Or maybe they could put a few extra seats around the pitch.. ;D

surely though, this will restrict Liam as well? and Whelan
i can only think that it is being done for Rory's throw, he will be able to reach the penalty area from the half-way line now wont he?

I was told from a good sauce the reason behind it was to expand the area around the pitch to allow adequate room for parkin to warm up ;D
