Like I've said previously, I don't think we've got a "bad bunch" but they all seem very pally to me and that's not necessarily a good thing in a competitive sporting environment. Burger looks to be the one who drives standards on the pitch from what I see but we really do need more in the summer.

It doesn’t really matter does it? What do they really do? It’s not like cricket where he picks the team and does all media duties after the game. It’s just a bloke who wears an armband, sometimes a nice rainbow one😉 Xmas party organiser extraordinaire Thought that was James Beattie.

I can't see any obvious nailed on ideal captains at the moment. Burger has been captain, and on the pitch has totally played and behaved like one, however i think feels like the pitch side of things is only half of it, and obviously why Laurent (who absolutely has it in his locker to be a commanding manager on the pitch, but is frustratingly inconsistent) who is clearly a much more popular and charismatic character behind the scenes has been gifted the armband. If Laurent could perform like Burger on the pitch it would be a no brainer, equally with a season under his belt and confirmation that he's in it for the long haul with us or at least another year, maybe Burger is the one you'd pick Feel like we need someone with a bit of experience with the armband, i guess we'll see who we bring in over the summer.

Don't appoint one whoever has the most Stoke appearances by each individual game should be captain that game Hugely over emphasised role on here. I like your idea of it being interchangeable but not your selection criteria. Just select one of the organisers and communicators who isn't struggling with their own game. Candidates Burger, Pearson, Wilmot. Anyone but the far too laid back brigade ie Baker, Laurent, Campbell. He's unavailable for selection next season as he'll be playing for some other club, but I've got to wonder what it would do to Ty Campbell, if he was handed the job. He would have qualified as club captain, as he's the longest serving player on the books - by several thousand miles, if you like, as very few have been here long. But to actually see Ty lead out the team on matchday, be vocal or lead by example...no, no, no, that's a scary thought.

Other than in the pages of the Oatcake mb? No I'm not aware whether SS, who's nearly as much a fan of Ty as I am, has gone ahead and offered him a contract. Regardless he should move on for the benefit of his career. Because there are too many SToke fans who have seen enough of him. There will always be some on his case. He can shrug off the internet warriors in the Oatcake, but when the away fans, who I've always thought were the most loyal Stokies of all, start jeering him every time he misses a ball or ironically clap him off when he's subbed, then it's time to leave.

SS making comments about attitude of players must allude in some degree to leadership on the pitch. We have no leaders in our club and something that needs to be addressed as a priority. Captain needs to be vocal and lead by example. Shawcross wasn’t particularly vocal nor was Abdoulaye Faye But led by example. Lauren does neither well. Nothing player and worse captain who basically flicks the coin.

The one thing that could see him want to stay if a contract is offered, is if he doesn't receive any decent offers. This situation has history. His contract was running out once before and he was believed to have offers from elsewhere. But he chose to stay, because he felt right at home, and his best friends were here (Tymon, Verlinden, Bursik, Collins, Forrester etc). But now there is nothing or nobody to make him want to stay. I would think he is mature enough to realise that three games in succession doesn't guarantee him an extended stay in the team, and it shouldn't anyway.
