They weren’t our rivals when we signed him as they were in the premiership The scenario you mention would mean we never sign a loan player just in case a team got relegated I’d be over the moon if we never bothered signing loan players again. They are always below par. Always. Such as; Ryan Shawcross Mark Crossley Gerry Taggart Ade Akinbiyi Salif Diao Lee Hendrie Rory Delap Jermaine Pennant Victor Moses Bruno Martins Indy

He's developing into a very good player. We helped with most of his development. Southampton reaped the rewards. He's been their best midfielder and orchestrates the play. Developing your rivals players isn't a good approach They were Premier League when we had him, in fairness. Please correct me if I’m incorrect. Hadn’t he just returned after a lengthy absence due to injury or ill health? IMHO he’ll become an even better player over the next couple of years.

Regardless, development loans haven't worked, and we've been taking these players from clubs similar in stature to us, whatever division they're in. So they're our rivals

Now, most teams just loan crap that has been hovered up by the PL and is sent out (at huge expense) to levels beyond what they are capable of. Unless you are their third loan club, you are likely to get a dud.

I'd have Smallpiece ahead of Laurent and Baker. Stats weren't amazing but he never hid and always tried to make something happen.

The loanees last season in Jan, once getting us to 51 points in March (probably assuring their "avoid relegation bonuses") went the Frith beach at Prestatyn and achieved a massive 2 more points in last 7 games. It was truly pathetic.

These last few weeks have shown what an enigma Laurent is, he's looked absolute class and a good few levels above Smallbone, but when he's off it he really looks shit. I just pray we can offload Baker in the summer, the epitome of 'flatters to deceive'.

I'm sure some people don't understand what players bring to a team and expect them to picking up the ball, beating 5 players and smashing it in to the top bin. Theres a reason why he's been a regular in a top end team this season. He's the one now about to play in a play off semi final too. Good luck to him.
