Exactly. And, as Southgate said, it isn't even the flag. It's a motif using the shape of the cross from the flag, just as on previous shirts the cross has been dark green on a light green background, and dark red on a light red background, and sometimes the shape of the cross has been altered. Its been whipped up to be something it isn't by some media and some politicians and political groups. It's not disrespecting the flag. Neither is it anything "woke", although personally I would have no problem if it was in the rainbow colours, which would look quite nice and give a nod to our nation's and our game's diversity. But I certainly won't be buying one at that price ! Absolute horse 💩 . Of course it’s the flag! It’s suddenly not become the flag since Nike and the FA got wind of the bad press around it and peddled a different narrative ! If you are a Gammon or a woke It’s still blatantly a recoloured flag … I respectfully disagree. It isn’t the flag. Its a cross.

Yes the cross of St George , which is a flag is it not ? We agree to disagree Malcolm , it’s like one of those optical illusions where some people see a young woman in a hat or an old woman on the same picture 🤣. I see the st George cross and can’t see anything other than a flag the same as if I see the Stars and Stripes

We agree to disagree Malcolm , it’s like one of those optical illusions where some people see a young woman in a hat or an old woman on the same picture 🤣. I see the st George cross and can’t see anything other than a flag the same as if I see the Stars and Stripes To me an image of a flag shows the boundaries of the flag, which this doesn't, which is why I think it's a cross, not a flag (albeit a cross whose shape is derived from the cross on the flag). Take for example the green goalkeeper strip which was linked to earlier in the thread, which has dozens of that same shape green crosses on it. Do you see a big flag with dozens of green crosses on it, or dozens of very small flags, each with a single green cross ? I see neither. I see a football shirt with a lot of green crosses on it ! There is also the more important question of why that shirt with large numbers of green crosses on it didn't provoke the reaction from some quarters which this one with a single cross has done As you say, snoogle, we agree to disagree, but for the avoidance of doubt, I respect that difference and certainly don't regard your view as "absolute horse shit" (as you did mine).

I assumed after watching them that England keepers of the time had no idea what crosses were

If you were in my recent symbols, signs, colour and contexts workshop Malcolm, sounds like you would have received top marks. Not for being woke, but being capable of reading and analysing the shapes, colours and forms you're looking at!

It looks pretty good in photographs, but washed out on the tele. They should have gone for Proper Royal Purple Like The Colour of The Purple Ones in Quality Street with Big Gold Three Lions. Maybe it is designed to look better in person, in a pub or doing the weekly shop, or if you want the piss ripped out of you, whilst playing walking football or if you're young enough, tearing around the Power League with your mates.
