David Batty was another who didn’t actually like football, he also just enjoyed playing it…..he loved motorcycle sports I used to hang around with a lad in my younger days who was the same, never watched it on the tv, never supported a club but was an excellent midfielder who loved playing football Funny old world Wasn't Nick Powell like that? In that he loved playing but didn't really follow or enjoy football outside of being on the pitch? Could be wrong but swear I read something about it.

I reckon there's possibly more players that happen to be good enough at football to do it as a job then we perhaps realise. It happens in different walks of life. I knew a superb comic illustrator who never read comics at all In his spare time. He was just shit hot at drawing them.

He would have made himself available but had already booked sunbeds for the days in question and he needs to keep that tan topped up. I won’t make fun of it as it seems that’s just his natural colour after a bit of sun, he’s always had this fake tan look. He’s a decent player, good enough for the squad but not the starting 11. Seems he doesn’t care that much for football outside of his day job, which is baffling to many people but each to their own, especially when there is a reasonable chance of winning something with England these days if Southgate doesn’t bottle it yet again.

Shame really….along side Stones at the back and we’ve got a classy central defence

With the way they can be treated especially when they’re younger I don’t blame any of them if they actually didn’t like football.
They are often part of an industry that will eat them up and spit them out without a care in the world at any point from the age of 9.
I’m surprised more of them don’t hate the game.

I’d be surprised if they hated the game, as you have to stay motivated to perform at as high a level as you can. That said, I don’t blame them for not wanting to watch football after playing it. It must just feel like work. They’ll spend much of the day practicing it, talking about it and thinking about it. I think it’s healthier to switch off at the end of all that.

Andre Agassi didn't like tennis. ……and as if by magic, the vision of Steffi Graffs rear end floats into my dirty mind.

You can not love your job but to hate it and be so successful seems unlikely to me.

You can not love your job but to hate it and be so successful seems unlikely to me. For someone bang average at everything (like me) it is inconceivable that anyone could get to the top of their field without absolute dedication abd enthusiasm for what they do. However to take two examples from music - Avicii and Mark Hollis. Both extraordinarily talented yet both hated what they did. One ended up killing himself rather than continue and the other retired into complete obscurity. To me to have that God given takent would be a gifft to share. To them it was a torment. Difficult to get your head around if you're not them.

i think people don't realise that when you earn more you spend more, that's just the way life goes, if a footballer earns 5 million a year you can bet your life he just doesn't buy his house, he will have 10 million pound house that is mortgaged, and remember they cant have a 25 year mortgage because their career doesn't span that long, they will also have 100k cars and top of the range everything, you spend what you earn for the most part.
Myself and the wife when we first got together had a combined salary of about 35k and we brought a 2 up 2 down terrace....we now earn about 120k combined and have a 4 bed detached in alsager....but we have about the same disposable income as we had when we were on 35k if that makes sense we just have nicer things....i guess the way to beat this is to stay in the 2 up 2 down but if that's the case what the point of taking higher pressure jobs.

He’s had a fall out of Steve Holland at a previous camp. He doesn’t actually really like football, never watches it and openly says he struggles being away in England camps. England have denied the Holland story, which probably means it's definitely true. In all honesty I have a bit of sympathy. You play all season and then you have to feck off on a 6 week training camp/tournament whilst all your pals who ain't good enough to get into the England team are in ibiza boozing and chasing tail. He'll probably regret it when he's older and we win a world cup or euro but fuck it go for the here and now 😆 And when we win fuck all he can sit back and think yep called that right 😆 Extremely unlikely for England to win anything until Southgate is in charge

The way we bossed Italy last year in Italy showed we have kicked on again

Hes done a fine job building the spirit up and getting them playing well. I just think he bottles it when the pressure is really on. Time to move on after this tournament........unless of course we go and win the fucker and we both have egg on our faces 😆

Seems to me he's done a great job. We've had some dire managers in the past. Taylor Erikson, Capello and the last one Hodgson had good players to choose from and all failed miserably

Losing a final at wembley against the most dire Italian national team since 1966???!! Out of the Italy XI which played England in that final not more than 2 maximum 3 would feature in the England team. And yet he bottled it !!

It’s like getting a Ferrari and giving it to someone who never drives over 40mph
