Hadn’t realised how young he is. Mature and intelligent player. We really shouldn’t be losing anyone we don’t want to to another Championship club. A PL club would probably only be buying him with an eye to the future so it would be up to him if he wanted to take a bit part role at this stage of his career. If we get relegated then all bets are off.

Not sure why he'd leave so soon if we stay in the division. He's only just arrived, has been made captain, and could be the player the team is built around. Unless we/he get a crazy money offer then why would he not want to give it another season at least. Looks like some of the lightweight fannies are finally being dropped for the harder workers in the side. That can only bode well for Burger and the more passionate players that genuinely put in the effort and look like they want to compete. He’s only the temporary captain mate as Laurent has been out injured so I’d imagine he’ll hand over the reigns when Laurent is selected to start Unless with a new manager that’s changed and I haven’t heard or read it? That's what I assumed tbh. 'Burger's the first name on the team sheet whereas Laurent (for me) isn't guaranteed a start, so it'd make sense to make him captain. Burger also seems more intelligent, articulate, harder working and vocal than Laurent I hope he remains as captain in any case.

Oh Wouter Burger, You are the love of my life, Oh Wouter Burger, Don’t need a fork or a knife, Oh Wouter Burger, I’ll take curly fries with that, too Ohhhh Wouter Burger…. Some lads at Blackburn singing that with the last line “I like curly fries too”

"Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger,Wouter Burger,Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger, Wouter Burger, WOUTER BURGER, WOUTER BURGER..." (ad infinitum) Stop the count! We have a winner Ridiculous how simple but brilliant this is and it's not a tune that's already been done to death on the terraces.

Wouter's in the air, and he's also on the ground Wouter's everywhere, he only cost 4 million pounds And I don't know when he will be leaving Don't know if he will stay But he's something that keeps me believing That we can win home and away
Wouter's in the air, in defence and in attack Wouter's everywhere, scoring goals and tracking back And I don't know if he's made of magic Don't know if he's made of gold But when Burger is in our midfield City will win I am told
Wouter's in the air Wouter's in the air

I hope he stays as captain...assuming he wants to. Nobody else is up to that job. It seems an obvious fit.

You know the bit when you've had a few shandies and you can't remember the words so you just hum out of tune or make new words up or just repeat Wouter's in the air over and over? However, 'A' for effort and i think we've just given our age away

Fraser Fletcher of teamtalk now saying Burger attracting interest from Europe.
Would it be ludicrous to think that Mmaee’s party are intentionally trying to disrupt things with the Schumacher sacking rumour and now another one courtesy of his friends at Teamtalk?

He's great for us, but let's be realistic here, he's standing out in a bottom half Championship side. Not many European clubs that would be interested in him could afford his wages. If anything, he'll go to a higher positioned English club.

Easy to understand, he's been brilliant in his defensive role! I certainly wouldn't consider selling him unless someone offered £20M+!

Easy to understand, he's been brilliant in his defensive role! I certainly wouldn't consider selling him unless someone offered £20M+! All this is somewhat reminiscent of previous rumours concerning interest in our players over the years and the idiotic, hyper inflated valuations placed upon them by some Stoke fans. Mutterings about Campbell off to Newcastle a couple of years back produced valuations of £20m, £30m and then £50 million. When it looked increasingly likely that Tymon was on the move to Swansea, valuations of £5-7m were thrown about. Sobhi had a half decent away game back in the day (at Spurs, I think) and the consensus on here was a valuation of £30m. And there have been so, so many more similar over the years that don't spring immediately to my aging mind Burger, decent as he is, is playing for a bottom six Champ club that might be a Div One club soon enough. No one will be paying north of £7-8m at absolute best. If he returns to Europe or stays in the Champo, it will very likely be less than that.

We must be mad to let him leave for such an amount at his age and with his talent! Look what other teams in this division get for their best players!

Small time mentality typical of many a stoke fan, if we stay in this division which I think we will and there’s concrete interest it should be no less than £15million. Bristol got £18mill for Webster and £20mill for Scott. Just 2 examples from a club in a similar pool to us. But your talking £8mill at absolute best for our best player? No chance

He'd be mad to stick around here.
I had in my head that he's older than 23. It's a shame Alex Niel had him running around like a headless chicken for half of the season.

ah the fleeting summer of a decent player doth speed by like mayflies in June
Hold! Imbibe his sweet aroma while you can! Sieze the moment For soon he may jump ship and sail to fairer , more loftier climes, in the manner of "The Arn" or "The Shaq" Rejoice in the fair Wout while we dwells in our locale
