He did the same thing last time and I thought wow that's the most assured penalty we've had for a very long time. He played crap but his penalty record is pretty remarkable. Neil has a quote about it saying the other team might as well get ready for kick off when DJ gets a pen That's the bottom line, isn't it. I was very critical at the time, as we all were, and didn't know until I read it above that his previous record was 25 out of 27. You can't blame the captain for giving him the ball with those stats. If we get a pen on Wednesday and DJ is on the pitch, it will be very interesting to see who takes it.

His run up reminds me of Ric Flair.

Baker should have been brought on to take the penalty kick.

Baker should have been brought on to take the penalty kick. No one would have done that at the time though, Johnson’s penalty record is excellent, so why would you make a sub straight after half time to take him off them and bring on a player who’s first kick would be to take a penalty. If Baker had come on and missed you’d be saying why take Johnson off the penalty.

Le Tiss was a great pen taker, only ever missed once,. Never put his foot through them The best pen takers never used a hit hard and hope technique. Had he done that and missed today, we knew what this thread would be all about Le Tissier did indeed put his foot through a lot of penalties, with conviction. He never had a set way of taking a pen. That’s why he was so good at them. Some he’d give the keeper the eyes and roll it the opposite way but some he certainly beat the keeper with power and accuracy Toney has a 100% record as did Toure. No hit and hope with either . The 2 best %age pen takers in Prem history

He’s done that most of his career and been successful. Of course, he does it for us and looks a right berk. It’s probably some kind of ritual, but god it looked disgusting

Balotelli was great at it , slow run up, do the keeper the stroke it in It happens

Flip a coin before taking the penalty and let it decide where you put the penalty. The keeper will find that guessing what you're going to do becomes impossible

No comment on how flat footed our attackers were on the follow up? Watched it again and both defenders are well in the box before Johnson makes contact with the ball as he stutters his run, thats why they get to the rebound so much quicker than anyone else. In the land of VAR that is a retaken peno not against Stoke tho'

In the land of VAR that is a retaken peno not against Stoke tho' God forbid a Lino, or a Ref, with nothing else to do but watch for encroachment May have spotted that! It’s sad that most of us aren’t surprised they missed it. However, let’s not defend Johnson who, regardless of his previous penalty record, wasted the most glorious chance in utter schoolboy fashion. I was behind the goal, it was shite, waist high, in easy reach of the keeper. Burger should have held on to the ball, allowed Vidigal to take it, or insisted that Baker (who was ready to come on) came on to take it. He is one of the players I do not want to see play for us ever again.

I had no issue with him going up and taking it, if he hadn't of taken it and we missed we'd all be questioning why he didn't want it.

Why, oh fookin why, don't we have players in position for the re-bound? That woeful penalty (I'll wait for the keeper to dive and then kick the ball at him) was perfect for a tap into the net. When was the last time we ever scored a penalty from a renound?

A small dice? Could be nasty if it got kicked though ow!
