JCB are Conservative Party donors aren’t they? Stoke on Trent CC being Labour suddenly realising this, pulled the machine from use & returned it perhaps? Or perhaps not and perhaps you are just making it up. It was tongue in cheek but I’m pretty sure JCB are a major donator to the Tory Party.

"So, what does VED really pay for? Contrary to popular belief, VED doesn't directly fund road construction or maintenance. Instead, it goes into the central government fund, just like other forms of tax such as council tax and corporation tax."
Neither VED nor fuel duty goes directly towards paying for road construction/maintenance, or any other of the costs associated with motoring. There would be a short fall of the order of billions if you did that.

Went pot holing once as a child on a visit to Stanley Head. I wore the white tracksuit my mum had bought for my birthday a few days before. Needless to say she moaned her bag off about it

It was literally done by JCB as a promo, SOTCC don't own one of these machines unfortunately. You certainly have more knowledge than me but JCB reckon they do - www.jcb.com/en-gb/news/2021/11/revolutionary-jcb-pothole-c fixer-arrives-in-stoke-on-trent You'd have thought someone would have seen it tho 🤔 I saw them using it between Lime Kiln lights and the Bucknall petrol station a few weeks ago. To be fair to JCB it looks a useful bit of kit, but nowhere does it say that SCC have bought one, probably a promotional loan. Brilliant invention, they could sell hundreds of these if it's as good as it seems, great for the area.

The A51 between Nantwich and Woore is wank as well. Think I’ve just managed to miss doing too much damage driving down one near Bridgemere but was definitely a big old bang and could do someone if they are going quick enough or it gets any deeper.

What else are they bringing to the party?

I’ve found myself concentrating fully on the bit of road in front of me for potholes rather than further afield, heaven forbid if someone was to step out in front of me. This is a really good point, I regularly drive from South of Nantwich to the North of Crewe and there are numerous possible routes for me to take. The criteria that I use, is not based on traffic or length of journey but rather on which route has the least pot holes. The thing is, I spend so much time looking at the road immediately in front of me, in an attempt to avoid the new ones that have turned up overnight, that I know that I'm far from driving optimally and it won't be long before I go into the back of somebody, or God forbid, hit a pedestrian. I wouldn't be at all surprised if these types of accidents have increased recently. And furthermore, when did you last see an entire piece of road being resurfaced, rather the obligatory filling in of a pot hole here and there, that lasts a month at best? The roads across the entire country are literally crumbling to pieces, it's an utter scandal that this has been allowed to happen.

Wait until they privatise them, then you'll have something to moan about.

I’ve seen a few fully resurfaced roads over the last 2 or 3 years and noticed they aren’t lasting very long. My feeling is the stuff being used is not as good a quality compared to back in the day. A bit like paints and things like that. The stuff that makes them work well has been graded as being too noxious for use in the modern day. I’m probably wrong but it’s just a hunch that materials in construction have been so diluted to the point that they don’t have the longevity of years gone by due to restrictions on certain materials. Maybe a man (or woman) in the know could confirm or deny?

All roads in and around Eccy are like a 3rd world country. Esp Cotes Heath. I have a damaged Alloy, and broken ball joint on suspension. Gonna put in a claim. High Offley down to the Anchor pub via Peggs Lane, is an absolute bastard cluster of potholes that must be classed as a tank trap.

Then there are more floods due to climate change damaging them. And councils don't have money to maintain them.

Northwood Lane by me is a total disgrace.
You literally bounce down it, in my other car that’s got sports coilovers you half expect the entire car to split in half, it’s revolting.

I personally think the more floods thing is due to lack of council action with drains and stuff. It’s not raining any more than it ever has
