That Brown leather trench coat he used to wear when he was a manager was cool as fuck! Extra kudos to the great man!

One of the few universal iconic greats of the last 60 years. Very sad. RIP Franz.

Understandably, the first reference point for the 1974 world cup is Cruyff's Netherlands. This overlooks the fact West Germany had several world class players worthy of winners medals. The talisman, undoubtedly, was Beckenbauer. After the defeat to East Germany it was Beckenbauer who, effectively, took control of the team. He also managed his nation to two world up finals. As a player he defined the role of a sweeper. As a manager, he built a masterful team who deservedly became world champions. RIP Der Kaiser. One of the greats.

Sparswasser scored the East German goal but you'd know that I hassled my Dad for a Rep shirt all Summer ...not easy to find in those days. He ordered in from Hurleys in Manchester and took weeks

I remember his sticker, he looked the image of the players in the game Super Striker I think I still have my 74 sticker book. Wasn't really old enough for one but think was my Dad's excuse to do one . Needed 12 to complete it

A true "Rolls Royce" of a footballer.
One of those players who just seemed to glide across the pitch always in control and never seemed to be rushed.
RIP
